... do you want to ride another horse instead? I've had my horse for over 10 years, and my enjoyment is in riding him, not riding for the sake of it. If he's lame, or lost a shoe, or unwell, I just don't ride until that issue is resolved. Likewise, I do think that maybe when his riding days are over (he's 16 this year, so hopefully not soon!) mine may be too.

I think this has come on more as I've got older, when I was young I would have been grateful to ride anything!
 
I enjoy riding other peoples horses, and do when my horse is working too!! But quite often makes me all the more greatful for my horse

My horse has been mostly rideable throughout the last 18 months (couple of rest issues) but Ihave not wanted to ride another horse when he has been out of action.

And rather like the original poster, I have said that when his ridden days are over then in all probability so are mine!!!
 
No I dont. If he was off long-term I would ride another just to keep reasonably riding fit - but I dont enjoy it the same. I dont want to ride any horse, I want to ride MY horse.
 
I feel the same as you lucybruckner. I love my pony so much that I don't really want to ride another horse. I've ridden lots of different ones in the past but now I am getting older I just like having a good relationship with my own pony.
 
I like riding my horse (though can't at the moment as haven't backed her!) am only riding other ppls to help them out and so i can keep on top of my riding. I have always prefered riding my own horse to another persons! I think it must be the relationship you have with them?
 
No. I am completely happy to not ride and just interact from the ground. Riding is not the be-all and end-all for me.
 
Both ! I want to ride, but I want to ride a horse I have a relationship with, so I have 3 horses ! but there have been times I have been down to only one fit to work !
 
if i cant ride mine i wont ride, we do lots of weird stuff though like the other day I stuck his bridle on and went for a walk in hand round the lake for an hour.

i love riding but is not the only reason I have a horse for so would not be totally gutted if i could not ride. I could not ride for 3 months due to nerve block investigations on him, we became so close through ground work etc,
 
I love riding just my horse i know him so well and we have a very good relationship so i miss him if i ride anything else. I have not rode anything else for a long time anyway! When he was off after his colic surgery i did ride another one but its not the same! Dont get me wrong its nice to ride something diff bt not the same as riding Sid! When he was off we bonded so much more aswell. I love my horse can you tell!
 
I ride others but prefer to ride my own. I don't like competing others as when I compete mine I get the pleasure from knowing I have put the work in to get him that far. I get no pleasure really from competing others but will do fun comps at our yard on others.

I like hacking other peoples and also like looking after others when the owners go on holiday, I end up schooling them loads to see if the owners notice any difference

And sometimes I like the chace to sit on something different for a few weeks.

Mine has never been off work (well 3 days once) so cant really comment, but im not one for sitting on almost every horse on the yard like some people seem to do. There are certain ones I like to ride, some because they are great and others to see what i can get out of them.
 
I love riding my own horse - to me she is perfect. However I ride a lot for other people and I really just do it as a job and nothing else and as I am usually riding and leading two it can become a chore - ocassionally you get on a really nice horse but nothing beats your own!
 
I'm not a big lover of exercising TBH so I'm not too fussed..

Badgers rider is back from uni so wanted to take him out today so mum made use of me and sent me out on her horse... he's a sweetie but a bit boring!
