If you could make one yard rule what would it be?

Errr! just the one?? ...It would be...Stick to the bleepin yard rules PLEASE> If everyone stuck to the yard rules that were already in place (and in the contract they signed) it would be perfect :)

Only one? Spoilsport.

Mine would be that you must visit your horse at least once a day every day and muck out/water/feed appropriate amount.

Clear up mess you make before leaving yard... I get so fed up of brushing up others peoples discarded bits of hair, hay, mess after picked out feet!!! Why can't they leave area tidy!!

Just one?

Rule 1: Be thoughtful & consider others at all times.

Rule 1.1: If not, consider making your way out as soon as possible.

Just one! Sigh...

The horses' physical and emotional well-being is to come first at all times. (Of course, unless neddy has decided attempting homicide is a crucial part of his well-being)

When I was on a busy yard... no booking of the only ménage after working hours! Would cause big rows to have someone one has kindly booked themselves a lesson in "prime" time and everyone else has to wait outside. Particularly when everyone has worked a full day and just wants to work their horse and get home. Eventually the howling became so loud on that one that the YO had to apply that rule! the argument back was that was the only time x trainer could teach. My response was that neither I nor other liveries should have to forego riding for someone else's convenience. We were all short of time - that or put up and let others ride at the same time. Sorry, but at 7.00 at night in the winter, you really don't want to be sitting around for an hour waiting for someone else.

Great one, i would also assume that if horse feel homicide is needed the owner / victim needs to learn a few lessons.

Scary that thats needed as a rule but i know of somebody who would benefit from it. Local yard near me has the rule if your horses isn't seen to by 9.30 (when stabled) doesn't have to be mucked out but fed and watered. The yard managers does it and you will be charged.

Don't be a d*ck.

I think that covers about everything! :).

Is this aloud on the gate?

I get to interview every potential livery to weed out the psychos :D

No seriously, take your dirty shavings/straw all the way to the tip, don't dump it at the nearest edge of the pile thus ensuring the pile moves further and further back towards to door - drives me insane

But they have to forego having a lesson for yours !

Assuming that welfare of neddy is paramount, then I would suggest that:

> do as you would be done by
> learn the art of compromise to avoid conflict
> don't borrow without asking (and always put back if you do)

1. by nice and respectful to all people and animals,
1.1 every livery/horse has equal use of the facilities, whether Heinz 57 or the 4* eventer

ok this might be two.........................;)

If it does not belong to you dont £&@?ing touch it!!!

And YO's - do not tell me a load of blurb about the services and care offered if it is a lie and you have no intention of providing it once you get me through the door.

That felt good :-)

People who pay for facilities get first dibs on said facilities. At my last yard one person rode a horse owned by the yard but didn't pay anything and yet tried to tell me they needed to use the arena before me. Er no you don't when I pay for it.

Other than that do what the liveries ask! I have asked for my horses feed to be changed and a week later people are still getting it wrong. So now I am going to write it down for them on his buckets.

If you could make one yard rule what would it be? Or even more than one to help a yard run more smoothly.

  • Mess me about and your out
  • If it's not yours don't use it
  • if you make a mess clear it up
  • respect others and they will respect you

just some of them

This seems really unfair to me? I really don't see anything wrong with booking the school at a certain time to have a lesson if that's something the yard offers..surely you must know in advance when it's booked? We often have our school booked during peak time after work for lessons at my yard, everyone knows in advance and works around it. I'd be upset if I couldn't have lessons with my preferred instructor just because of other liveries having tantrums.

My rules would be pick up poo after yourself, don't leave horses out alone and no know it alls.

One rule is hard, but like a lot of others, I'd settle for people cleaning up after themselves. Sweep up, put things away, return all borrowed items in same condition they were supplied or better. It seems minimal, but it shows consideration for people other than yourself, and if you 'don't have time' to do it, what makes you think cleaning up after you is how other people want to spend their yard time? Yes, I am a little bitter haha I used to paddock-share grazing and someone seemed to have the idea that the rest of us worked for her or something...

Sorry. I can't agree with you there. Working people can only ride after work and during the dark winter months hacking after work isn't an option. All pay for use of the facilities so why should several people not be able to ride because one person wants a lesson.

My last yard had a rule that meant that people could only book the school for sole use outside of 'peak' hours. This meant that the working people weren't prevented from using the school in the evenings during the winter when hacking wasn't an option.

Brush up outside your stable! This IS a rule, but noone does it. I end up doing the lot, and the YO now expects it of me cause I have the "OCD" tag on my head.
