"If you dont buy my pony its going to die."

The advertiser is Babette Cole - is it this person?

I don't get 'going to the factory (slaughter) if someone does not buy her' or 'could be left in Ireland to run out with a proper cob stallion like Charlie Bannanas' - to make more unwanted horses?

Devonshirestud is run by 'babette cole' and it is also in crediton in devon, not very professional coming from a 'reputable' breeder!!!

Its is her, she has the advert on her 'for sale' tab on the website, but i dont understand why a breeder would threaten the old slaughter line...

That babette is in England, little pony is Ireland. Don't think it's the same one.

Charming, whoever they are.

Edit to say, you lot are to smart, take back above!

Yes, but if you look at the link i have posted, the babette cole who posted the advert is in crediton in devon, Devonshire stud is run by Babette cole in crediton, devon and she also has the advert on her forsale tab, here. :)

Here is the mare..

Really, really shocked to see this advertisement from this particular producer.

I think we need to give her the benefit of the doubt it reads as if it may not be her pony.

The advert has a totally different tone to the others she is selling as is the pony a totally different type.

I know Babette Cole - so I am sure that she is trying to save this pony from slaughter, rather than selling it herself. She's just not like that - at all.

Pretty clear from the advert to me that the pony will be sent to slaughter in Ireland if a buyer isn't found. Not Babette - she's trying to find a buyer to stop this happening.

Maybe you could suggest she amends the advert to reflect that if it is the case.

800 is not exactly cheap to rescue a completely unknown animal unfortunately.

This is what I think too. Not only is she a top show person, she's also a famous children's illustrator and author. She has a very good reputation and it sounds as if she is trying to find the mare a home.

I went for an interview with Babette Cole once (didn't take it as decided too far for me) and she was a very lovely and genuine lady who really seemed to care for her horses.

I would think there must be more to this.....perhaps she didn't write the ad? Or selling for someone else etc?

I feel quite angry with NFED for allowing such wording tbh.

All ads are vetted by Steve before he puts them up. I think he should have deleted any reference to this tbh.

And if they are desperate for a home why on earth put such a price on her. Meat money would be acceptable as a return surely.

It really scares me when I read a thread like this.

Has anyone bothered to take up the suggestion in the advert and phone the woman for the true facts? Or is it acceptable just to speculate and in the process risk a law suit for libel?

The first few posts on this thread give the impression that this woman is a heartless butcher trying to emotionally blackmail the reader into buying a pony. But the advert reads the complete reverse -- at least to me. Then, finally, her reputation is rescued because some posters actually know her. What if they hadn't?

Come on people! Surely we should all realise what harm idle gossip and speculation can do.

It does sound like she is trying to find someone to save the pony. But TBH it could have been worded a lot better and explained the exact situation. Maybe someone who knows her could drop her an email and explain. Sad as it is, there are a lot of ponies and horses that end up at slaughter and I'm not sure why she is encouraging breeding from this mare when overbreeding will be the exact reason that she's for sale or slaughter in the first place.

Seems nicely worded to me, makes it clear the mare is over in Ireland and will cost x amount if anyone wanted, or unfortunately (like many of Irelands over bred horses) will go for meat. She looks a nice mare, steep price but at least the lady has raised awareness forher.

I do wish the spaying of mares would come in though. We geld geldings, spay female dogs and cats. Just cause its female doesn't mean it should breed!

I read it as her trying to save the filly. Perhaps she has been told it is going to slaughter if someone doesn't buy her?

Yes, I think you're right.

Still a very odd advert in the wording and suggestion of running it with a stallion over there.

Why not simply purchase it herself, bring it over, and sell it on?

Weird.
