Set up and run a livery yard? And what size yard would you prefer to run?

All pro's and cons considered?

I would love to, only a small to medium sized yard though, up to 16 horses. I always hoped one day to have a smallish yard alongside doing the accountancy, a girl can dream!

So, how about you?

I would ! Even being the stand in drove me insane!
I'd either want a small (up to 20 horses) full livery yard
or a large (80 odd horses) full DIY yard

No; I'd love to have a yard full of horses, but I couldn't stand a yard full of livery owners.

I suppose a yard full of horses would do

I forgot to say, i would want a small yard with DIY liveries on the whole

I did, decided to live the dream and although it has had a lot of ups and downs I wouldn't go back. Took on a yard of 19 stables from scratch and run it as a full and part livery yard now. Don't ever expect to be rich tho!

I am sure it must be tough, i doubt i will ever get the chance, but i would go for it on a small scale one day if i could, horses always usually seems to equals poor in my case, so no difference there then

I used to have an 18 horse full livery yard - hard work but worth it. I now have a 10 horse temporary/schooling livery yard, alongside another business I run from home. Much less like hard work

I would never, ever, have a DIY yard, I would probably kill an owner or two within the first week

Lol-probably kill a livery, 10 sounds like a nice number to me, about what i would probably ideally chose if i won some money on lottery

To think i chose the accountancy route in the hope it would make me rich to buy my own yard. Don't shatter the dream, and 4 years hard work please Puss In Boots!!!

Same here, i am only 2years into AAT so i have a way to go, just feels like a long way off for me, but sounds like you are aiming for the same as me, and in that case, we can do it, you have given me fresh hope

I would run my own livery. Dunno whether it would be full, part or DIY. But I think a max of 15 horses but ideally a small yard of about 10 would be nice.

i would, definitely

id only do Part livery and full livery if owners went away(prepares self for slaps) couldnt be dealing with all the hassle from DIY's. and a yard of 15 would be lovely

nice big floodlit arena 60mX20m methinks

Been there, done that, bought the t-shirt.

I would have a training yard again and possibly even have students' horses, but not a general livery yard.
