If you had the opportunity would you have your childhood pony back?

I would have my first pony back in a flash! He was always a bit misunderstood, his naughty moments were just cheeky looking back, experienced a lot worse since! He would drag me, my mum or my dad to the nearest blade of grass, cat leap over every jump leading to me hitting the deck nearly every time I rode him and generally caused chaos! But I loved him and have been vaguely browsing to see if I can find him again, cuz I'd love to know if he's ok/have him back!

So if anyone knows 12.2hh dark bay, called Charlie, guessed as a nfxwelsh by the vet, would be 22 yrs old now, has a blaze and snip that looked a bit like a question mark, 4 white socks and a cheeky attitude!!! We owned him for 5 years 1994-1999, then sold him to a family who had him til about 2002/3 ish, now I have no idea where he is!!!

My first 'pony' was a 15.2 appy, when I was 15.

I still have her and had her 22 years now, She'll be 30 this year. Over the years we had a few time when the vets have said she might not make it, but she a though old floosie :)

Yes, I would LOVE to have my first pony back.

He was a little welsh 12hh gelding. He was AMAZING on leading rein but an absolute git off. I would love to ride him again now and see what we would get up to. I'd quite like to take the little bugger hunting now I'm bigger and stronger!

Definately yes. We called her 'the old bag', as she was a real grumpy cow at home, you could only hack her, but when she went to a show or games practice she was a amazing!!!

My first pony was a 12.2 welsh called Bengad Barley Mow and yes in a heartbeat. We actually brought my sisters childhood pony back and he ws reunited with my old mare (i kept her while my sis moved away from horses). The pair lived together for the last 8yrs and even tho my mare passed last year i still have my sis's gelding with my new horse. It was my dad (despite callilng them four legged poo making machines for the last 20 yrs) that said Leon needed to come home and finish his life with Meg as they both deserved it. :)

pony is exactly the right word (16.2 wb/tb) but definately would love to have him back. he would have been 22 this year if we hadn't pts due to severe colic

I would do anything to have my first pony back as he is exactly what my nieces need right now (we have been through 2 ponies and neither have suited). Sadly he died 7 years ago at the grand old age of 45 so it would be a miracle if he was still here and being able to be ridden.
He was the best pony a 4yo could have asked for.

I would always have my first pony back, hwoever i have been unable to bring myself to sell him so he is out on loan and if he needs to come back to me he will, if not he will live with his loaners for the rest of his life. the later is the most likely although im hoping when i have children he can come back to me for them!! haha

I never had a childhood pony:( but a few years ago I started riding at a new riding school and found one of the ponies from my first riding school, which had closed many years before, living a very happy life as stable mascot and pet (from my recollection, they didn't tend to have many kids about at that place, so I think he led a very gracious life of idleness and pampering):D It was lovely to see the little git again:D

I would definitely have one of the ponies from that place, they were little so and so's but they were great all the same:D

I would love to have my first pony back. 15hh connie and had him 27 years. Learnt to ride on him, made all my friends through the stables because of him, Went through primary school, secondary school, first job, college with him as a constant. He met my first boyfriend, and saw me up to my husband. You could take him out hunting and he'd just take care of you, i never had to worry about him, i always felt safe.

My new horse is the complete opposite of him, and sometimes I wish I had my loyal, honest, clever first guy back instead of my nuerotic, hotblooded tb now! I sometimes wonder will i ever get a bond as strong with my new guy, although ive only had him a couple of months so hopefully we will.

11.2hh section a that bucked me off pretty much every time i rode him, hmmm maybe not :D

Being a soft touch for a charity case if i had the room i'd probably have fields full of my horrible little ponies.

I had one particularly nasty 14.2 when i was 12 and i'd love to try him again now i'm 25 and a much much stronger rider, he had one hell of a jump but he'd run out right at the last minute and smush me against the wall, think he was a bit of a bolter too actually!

God no!

He spent 90% of his time reversing and the other 10% on his backlegs, waving at the horrified onlookers.

Perhaps you could have him back and save him for extra annoying children.

'Why yes, small bratlike person, you may have a ride on the pony...'

Mwahahahaaaaaa

:D

My first proper pony was a Welshie x Gypsy called Star and he really could jump the moon. He was naughty, difficult and a total b*gger I rode him for 14 yrs. He was a super star, we hunted, SJ, and XC. Hunting, his manners were immaculate, but he would keep up all day, even into old age.

But best of all we would disappear off hacking for hours and hours, we'd leave just after dawn and get back at teatime. He was a terrible kicker, you could not carry a crop because he would bronc if you did. He hated everyone except me and was an escape artist. But he was a total sweetheart. I would have him back in a flash.

Unfortunately he has gone to the happy hunting ground, he was never sold and lived into old age a grumpy old bast*rd but he could still jump a 5 bar gate at 22! But I would love to have him back, I was heart broken when he went, even though he was ready to go.

On our yard, our YO has her old pony, he is a Welshie too but he is an absolute sweetie. He is such a gent, he loves the mares and is great with her nieces, teaching them to ride. But he will still take off with a rider he knows can ride.He is a real character that everyone loves. A fantastic horse.

My first pony was a little git - shetland cross - and he used to kick me if given half a chance, if he couldnt do that when I rode him he would tank off with me and I swear deliberately throw me off in a bed of stinging nettles!! I would have my lovely Arab Mare back who I owned when I was eighteen,(45 now!) she taught me so much and I had so much fun with her, I used to wake up every morning and I couldnt wait to get out of bed to go and see her. I loved her very very much xxxxx

Yes I would in a heartbeat, sadly she was pts 3yrs ago at the age of 31. She was a 13.3 NF who if she was in the right mood would blow the competition straight out of the water in what ever we happened to be doing (sj, dressage, x country, showing, pony games - you name it she tried it), however 8 out of 10 times she wasn't in the mood and was a little madam, if she got bored in lessons, she'd suddenly canter down the long side of the school with you just because she could. You'd ask her for counter canter and she'd do a flying change, you'd ask for a flying change and she'd do counter canter. She was a grumpy old bag, but I would give anything just to be able to ride her one more time as I have never trusted a horse or pony the way I did her (even when she used to take off at flat out gallop and the only way to bring her back was to drop the reins onto her neck). I still miss her so much and think of her all the time

God no - my parents clearly only bought magpie cos they hated me & my sister:D
he was bloshy, spooky & would regulaly decide that he had hacked far enough & just head home via the most direct route with either me or my sister hanging on for grim death - if he dumped us, which he did regulaly & we were forced to do the walk of shame - my mother would shout at us for loosing the pony - i didnt ride for nearly 30 yrs after we out-grew him:)

My first pony will be 19 this year still got him and he's also a little git always has been, taught me and my sister loads and I would never part with him.

I still have mine - well, teenage pony. :D

Sunny, a livelier than life 14.2hh Arab mare who has taught me absolutely everything & has been there through just about every phase of my teenage & adult life ... through the parties, my first boyfriend, the break ups, the tears, the tantrums, the subsequent boys & break ups, when i got my first job, when i first moved out of home ... absolutely everything!! she also has the kindest of hearts & has forgiven every mistake i've ever made, in the somewhat steep learning curve of having bought a 4 year old, 'crazy' arab as my first horse. 11 years on, she is just as lively although we know each other inside out now & she is just my whole world.

In a heartbeat, nothing has come close to filling the void he left. I got him when I was 14 and he was 16hh so I never out grew him and therefore never parted with him. I lost him just under 3 years ago at the ripe old age of 31 but I would give anything to have him back even if it was just long enough to feel his warm breath down the back of my neck and plant a big kiss on his soft nose.

in a heart beat loved him to bits! my wee cheeky eriskay pony!

I'd love to have my little guy back! He was just amazing :) We only sold him about three years ago, but it wasn't quite the home we expected it to be :( He's up for sale/loan again & if we had the money to keep him, we would(unfortunately we don't have our own land but we could actually buy him back as we saved the money from him & got my next pony on loan). I'm too big to ride him, but my mum could have him as a dressage pony...oh well...I can dream

Didn't have a pony as a child, but my first horse, Juno,I had at age 18,I would have back in an instant. She was a chestnut mare, and I would have trusted her with my life. She was amazing, and so honest. She's been gone nearly 40 years now, and I still well up when I think of her. I love the two I have now, but she was special. Sleep well, my beautiful girl xx

Still got mine! A 14.3hh chestnut mare of unknown breeding. Brought her as an unbroken 2 year old from a horse sale with my life savings and a donation from my Grandpa! Broke her, took myself to see her daily (no lifts from Mum!) and paid every bit of livery, shoes, vets etc for her myself from that day to this.

Thanks to her I learnt how to manage money, be a responsable (!) person and to never trample anyone elses dreams, as she was and still is mine :)

I also have now and equine degree, and have worked some for some of the biggest names in the equine industry (rugs...saddles etc) and what else has she given me? Well appart from lots of headaches, embrassment (being disqualifed from our first and only ever show stands out....) she had been my whole world for over 15 years, and is truly the love of my life.

She is currently in the stable outside due anyday to have her first (and only!) foal, who will also have a home for life, like its Mum :D

my little girl was PTS last year :(

she was fantastic and if i could bring her back and have her healthy i would. such an amazing jump, so patient and incredibly fast and fun :D

Yes. Obviously I'd be far too big for her and it would be interesting to see if I could still cope with her issues (my current horses are very, very different) but I would. I just adore her so if I had the space I would have her back in a flash.

Lucky enough to still have mine - got her when she was about two, she's probably heading for 30 now. She's moved across the country with me and she'll never go anywhere else :)
