If you chose to have your horse cremated, what would you do with their ashes?

A friend on my yard who lost her horse last week collected her ashes today and brought them back to the yard. She has put her in her stable for one last night before scattering them tomorrow.

She said she didn't want to take them home as her home was never her horses home, so she decided to bring her back to her home as she felt it the right thing to do.

She has decided to scatter half her ashes in the field where she spent most of her days with her friends and the other half will be taken to the New Forest where she enjoyed fantastic holidays every year.

With my old mare who i have had for many many years, i would love to save her ashes till i passed away and have both of our ashes scattered together across our local common where we had some of our best times.
But as she never has liked being in i dont think i could keep her contained for that long, so i will scatter her and then will follow and meet up with her when my time comes

I would scatter them across several of the places we had been to and had happy memories.

Places that I could visit again, on my own, or with a new horse.

I got my old pony's ashes back - in a huge box. Her name was Cherry so I buried the ashes in the garden and planted a cherry tree over the top.

We were going to scatter Dols ashes in her old paddock or plant a tree over them, but when push came to shove, we just cant part with her, so she is her in the Lounge, on a table in the corner and quite unobtrusive. I say hello to her most days....
Our dogs are on the same table.
I doesnt feel morbid at all, quite comforting actually to know she is so close to us.

I am so soppy, this is making me cry! Think I would like some of Blaze's ashes made into one of those equiheart things
(can't remember the site, Google if interested) and the rest scattered somewhere special.

Sammy is in our garage at the moment

We put some of his ashes with the tree we planted in his memory. I'm still undecided about what to do with the rest (and it's been nearly 7yrs), I guess I still can't bare to part with him

I lost Nettie 2 years ago in august and still have his ashes. Their on my bedside table and i say hello to him every morning. I lost him 6 weeks before i moved to somerset so decided to keep him as i didnt want to scatter him in wales and i wasnt there any more. TBH i think he'll stay with me till the day i die then get buried with me. He was my soul mate and i cant bear to be apart from him.

I lost Merl back in August and I have him next to my bed, he was happy being in his stable and there is nowhere I could happily spread his ashes.
I am most happiest with him still with me where he belongs, I have known people to spread their horses ashes in a fav spot of theirs which is lovely.

We scattered them at a place on Bodmin Moor where we visited a lot with our horses. We go back there regularly and the spot where we scattered them is identifiable by a stone jutting out of the ground. George will go there when he's gone as well; and although Lanky hasn't been taken on holiday there, he originated there as we bought him from the people we stay with down there, so he will be put there as well.

Ive had my mares ashes back since July and still do not know what to do with them so for now she is at home with me.

I have thought about the diamond option - has anyone had this done and can you share the results ?

And yes, I can't open that wardrobe without speaking to them

I would love to find out more about the diamond idea too.

those that have them on tables, I always assumed horse ashes would be rather big/heavy etc due to the quantity.

I'd prob put frank back in the field or down the beach

Yes when I had Cherry cremated I didn't particularly want the ashes back but with the crem I used you had no choice but to get them all back rather than just a token amount and it came in an absoutely huge box prob weighing at least 20-25kg.

I have Kelts ontop of my bookshelf here in the living room, always inended to scatter all/some, but can't bear to, I rather like her being so close! Thr box isn't really that big or incredibly heavy, she was 16.2hh ID x arab. I guess when the time comes for Ped, i'll do the same, would like them to go with me I guess.... does that sound selfish? I know her soul is running free...

Napoleon came back in a very large Nescafe tin! Some of him is under a rose bush in my garden, and the rest on the "Ox Drove" our favourite local canter hack, and every time I take my current horse up there we stop and say hello, I think the boys compare notes briefly about how naughty they can be up there without me getting cross!
