if you have more than 1 horse, do they each have different grooming kits-if so ..why!

I only have one horse but if I have more than one they would each have their own grooming kit!

If any of my friends are borrowing my mare for a hack I am very very anal when it comes to what hey groom her with even though she is turned out with their horses... Can't ever be too careful is my theory!

Re OPs post, her horse was going off for schooling (or some such thing) and so probably (hopefully) would not be grooming other horses for a while as should be in isolation!!

Each horse on the yard has their own regardless of whether they are owned by the same person or not. If one horse picked up something nasty then by using the same kit you can EASILY end up spreading it to every single one so it isn't worth the risk imo

iv always been told "you wouldnt like to share your hairbrush with everyone else, so why share your horses brushes" iv been told it can spread skin infections, and i know someone who had a grey and a chestnut and shared a grooming kit, the grey was covered in chestnut hairs and vice versa, i wouldnt mind if it was both my horses but with a load of strange horses?? definatly not!

They share the same grooming kit,but I do have plenty to go around. However, I am now considering keeping them separate as I am fed up of having grey hairs on my bay from keeping the brushes together. Also they are now kept in separate fields with different field friends at the new yard.

I would not be happy having my grooming kit used on unknown horses, or having their brushes used on mine. Not worth the risk imo.

Mine do have seperate kits and then plus some. However I do admit to using the same kit with both, except for when there was a suspected ringworm outbreak and a respiratory virus outbreak.

My two share brushes, but I will not allow their brushes to be used on any other horse, nor would I use other horse's brushes on mine. My two live in the same field and groom each other, so if one were to get something, the other would due to them touching and grooming. I did once borrow their paddle brush for my hair when I forgot my hair brush at a show but I think that is allowed:)

They also share feed bowls, Farra likes to have a bit of hers, then some of Stinkys and then back to hers, luckily they are on almost identical feeds. As they do this, I don't have seperate feed bowls, just use any of them for each horse

I am with the YO on this one, I would want any horse arriving to have its own kit to include feed bowls, water bucket, rugs and grooming kit.
