If you leave food on the side is it still there when you get back?

Unfortunately my 3 have learnt to work as a team. The springles cant reach the worktop but the IWS can, he is sent in to knock things off, then has to share his ill gotten gains with them. I have caught them in action, peered over the upstairs bannister to see the goings on in the kitchen. 2 small springles stood patiently behind Smurph until he managed to drag a fresh loaf onto the floor, then they all took mouthfuls. I was so impressed by their initiative I found it quite hard to be cross. They do know its naughty and wouldnt dream of touching anything whilst Im around but I cant leave anything lying within reach of Smurph when Im out.

Hum-so far, the spoilt whippity boy has not been thieving. He will wait for the cry of " doggy bonus! " if food falls on the floor.

And yesterday, I managed to forget a plate of pizza by the sofa and fall asleep for a couple of hours, and it was still there when I woke up.

But toast crumbs? Not safe in our house :)

All bar one of mine are safe and good around food.....one particular little bitch is a pain in the butt and only last night chewed through the lining of a jacket to reach the contents of a zipped up pocket in my jacket which I had stupidly left over the back of a chair when I went out. She's five, but in her defence she was a stray on the streets and I am not her first home, nor her second, nor her third. :(

Years ago I wanted to take a rather manic four year old cubbing so persuaded a friend to accompany me on her rather more staid pony. The deal for her getting out of bed at an ungodly hour was that I had to supply bacon butties! The lorry that I had at the time was rather ancient and the door locks didn't work properly so off we set along with yard dog, who was a rather large GSD cross to guard lorry whilst we were absent.

After a couple of hours we both were cold and decided to turn for home....my friend saying that she couldn't wait for a cuppa and a bacon buttie! I then froze, remembering that the foil wrapped bacon butties had been left on the dashboard in the cab.....dog had been left in the living which had a crawl through to the cab. I broke this bad news to my friend and we both resigned ourselves to empty stomachs until we got back to the yard.

Returned to the lorry, called dog....no response. Got off horse, looked in living and there was one woof totally and utterly fixated on the untouched bag of bacon butties with oodles of drool pouring out of his chops!! God knows how long he had been in that position, but he had certainly earned his buttie that morning! :D

Bless him!

I know of a golden retriever that had an entire lasagne that was cooling on the worktop.

Luckily my standard dach hasn't got the height but if he did, nothing would be safe. I make excuses for him that he's a hound and dictated to by his nose, but he's the biggest greediest canine thief I've met. Luckily he has a cast iron stomach but i've learned the hard way he'll climb an assault course to reach the easter egg on the sideboard . He learned to push a kitchen chair out from under the table to climb on it to steal. At my unsuspecting mothers he had a whole quiche from the aga, and when she had her shopping delivered stupidly turned her back for 2 minutes... I'm worried he'll fall & hurt his back in his theiving efforts so now the only places food can be ever be kept are fridge/freezer worktop or cupboard, but guests/family find it hard to remember.

hmm no food isnt really safe at ours, my Boxer is worse than my Great Dane but they both have their moments. Alfie (boxer) will go as far as jumping up at the units sometimes if food is left at the edge, he seems constantly starving and always searching for food even though they are VERY well fed! Lexi isnt as cheeky or at least is more aware its not allowed but she still has a go sometimes if kids run off leaving half their dinner on the plate, I certainly wouldnt leave the room when theres food in sight. They also both hang around the highchair waiting for the bits of food come flying over the edge at them.. Starved puppies!
