well then you would put other on the poll and explain that your horses live out 24/7.
And just for you, you can change the question to "if you opened the field gate" and ignore the 4th poll option
lol Shilasdair! I have no stable so Maiden wouldn't care if I happened to open a door!
If she was stabled and I accidentally let her loose, she'd just head straight for the nearest bit of grass. Some of the horses at work slip under their stable chains occasionally (when we're stupid enough to leave them for long enough!) and generally they just stand around and look bemused. I imagine the stallion would be a lot quicker than that though, I can just imagine him making a bee line to the nearest mare!
My friend once accidentally left her horse in her stable, door wide open and chain not hooked up. Cracks just stood at the door as if the chain was up!
i have done this once before.. not on purpose i might add.!! went off to have a cuppa, came back 20 min later and Andy was still eating his hay with the door wide open (oops).!! he is such an angel in the stable and in general really...
however i have known many horses who would be over the hills and far away if you so much as forget to bolt the door behind you.!!

Well, old mare would either stay in the field (quite likely) or graze the area just outside, and then would return to her field for feed time
or wait for me.
Shire x TB would try to speak to all the other horses, but would scare them silly as she's huge and a little over-enthusiastic.
3yo would probably steal a car and be found cruising round the niteclubs of Cheltenham wearing burberry and drinking Stella, whilst playing music so loud that only the bass is audible.
Happy now?
S
Actually, when my Shire x Tb limbo-ed under the electric fence, she came to meet us at breakfast time...
Generally if mine misbehave or escape, I just deny that they're mine....

lmao! i can just picture it "is that crazy animal yours?" "nope, never seen it before in my life"
I think it would depend on my girl's mood! If calm, she would probably mooch long the stable block looking for feeds that had kindly been left out for her! If that failed, hay bales or nets lying about would be the next victims.
If hyped up though, she'd bugger off at speed until she thought she was out of range and then stick her nose to the nearest patch of grass!
I ticked the first option, but she's probably more likely to do a mix of them!
Mine would amble out and stop at the first bit of grass, assuming all the others were in - if everything else was out I imagine at some point they would go looking for their friends
The only time ours have ever buggered off was when our old mare randomly decided to jump the fince which she has never ever even tried to do, and the rest followed. Away up the road in the snow! Was very scary but they've never done it again.
A couple of times, some of them have gotten out but just come and stand on the yard, or wander down to find grass.
Mine would do the same as the_watcher's. He unties himself quite often, is usually found at the nearest patch of grass/haynet. TOok him up to my parents' for a hack with friend's horse the other day, left them tied up whilst went in for a cuppa, back out ten minutes later, and he had untied himself and was tucking in to other horse's haynet. Obviously that one was better than his! Lucky he didn't bother heading for the 300 acres of grassland round the corner!
Big girl would just stand there with an invisible piece of string across the doorway and look mystified at me, but little Sec A would bugger off like a rat up a drainpipe.
otto just stands there as ash frequently leaves his door wide open.
soph has let herself out before and got as far as the round bale of hay on the yard, the second time she did it she just stood in the doorway looking smug!
the pony would just wander round the yard winding everything else up
When we've got good grass we quite often just open the stable doors and our lot take themselves to the field (can't do it at the mo as there's more grass round the yard than in the field). Also do it in reverse in that we open the field gate in the mornings and they all trundle into their stables for their breakfast. Very easy system of getting three horses in and out of the field.
I allways leave gingas door open when im doing things and taking up, with him untied, he just stands still where ever, when ever and for as long as you like. He has a better stay than my dog!
Pip when let loose gallops, and gallops, and gallops- It takes him a hour most days to settle in the field!!
Hmmm....well, they might wander into the stable, have a sniff around for food, then wander out again. (sorry, mine are like Shilasdair's and live out 24/7)
Well I have the ideal set up as I have a mobile field stable in his field. So I open the door every morning and he wanders off to find the nearest patch of grass! And then in the evening he wanders back in of his own accord and waits in there whilst I mix his tea bucket up!!! He is well trained bless him!
Can anyone explain who Lol is or do you mean Laugh out Loud only it dosn't seem to fit sometimes. I know it's me being a bit thick. But please can someone explain?
I am pretty sure April would head for the nearest food source.
There was no option for what my mum's old pony once did to her!!! It's a great story... he managed to escape and went on a trip round the village where he spotted a football game going on. he promptly joined in and the game had to be stopped whilst everyone tried (in vain ) to catch him LOL. Mum says she has never been so embarrassed in her life hehe.
Sparky just stands there - regularly leave the stable door open and he just stands there as if it was closed (i know its dandgerous, dont do it often and when im just outside
