Would you be worried?
This isn't my horse, he lives out in a field on a public footpath with a few others (all with feet in a similar condition), their legs were all covered in cuts (I assume from fighting) which looked untreated and one of them is quite underweight. I'm not sure if I should have taken a photo without the owners permission, (don't slate me for it!) but I just wanted an opinion as to whether it's worth a call to the ILPH/RSPCA? So what do you think, do I just leave it or should I report it?

I feel I can't really ignore it, but I'm not sure how much power the ILPH etc will have in this situation either. I don't know the owner's name or anything, so i wouldn't be able to speak to them, they've always had horses in those fields of all different shapes and sizes so I'm assuming it's a dealer.

go ahead and report them otherwise you will kick yourself... They will come and check. they dont deserve to be kept like that goodluck

You need to report it to your local trading standards department, animal health and welfare department. They will deal with it.

My god ive never seen feet that bad

I definatly report it. My horses feet are a total mess and are costing me a fortune in farrier bills and her feet were not half as bad as that when I rescued her.

That's horrible, it's a wonder the poor horse can walk. I'd say report it to both ILPH and RSPCA, and email them the photo as well. If you don't do it possibly nobody else will and they will go on suffering...PLEASE do it for the horse's sake.

OK, thanks for all your replies!... I am just sending an email to the ILPH with photos now and I will give them a call as well. Not sure about contacting trading standards yet as I'm not 100% sure whether the owner is a dealer (although it does look that way)

Wish me luck and I'll let you know how it goes!

With the new animal welfare act, this should surely be fairly easy for the welfare people to act upon - it is obvious neglect, poor horse.

Well done for acting.

It makes no difference what so ever who they are owned by, trading standards will investigate regardless and will go the same day!

you know when they put a cruelty case on tv, and you,ll say to yourself how the hell did no one notice and report it sooner .this is one of these you are in a position to do something please phone someone because they are bad and the ground is drying and its only going to get worse.

The email's sent, and I'll do the phone calls first thing tomorrow morning. Thank you everyone, I have to admit, I was horrified when I saw this poor chap's feet, I just wasn't sure whether I was in a position to do anything about it...Thanks again everyone. I'll update you when I know what's happening!
