That foot certainly hasn't seen a rasp for a long time. However the horse seems to be doing quite a good job of self trimming.
If he could just get that flared bit off he would be doing a pretty good job on his own.
I don't think the RSPCA etc will do much if that foot is the worst you could find.
Do the horses have access to water etc?
Are any of the feet in worse condition than these?
Do any of the wounds look infected?
Do you know who the owner is?
I would certainly phone up the ILPH and have a chat with them about these horses. At least then if they don't do anything now they will be on a register of some kind.
I just don't have a lot of faith in these charities until the horse is all but dead.
I am sure you won't have been the first one to report them if they are off of a footpath.
Hi Bonzabean, yeah, the horses did have access to a stream, but couldn't see any other water supply. And they did look generally healthy, although one was quite ribby. The wounds didn't look infected, but by the look of the dried blood around them they hadn't been treated. And I don't know who the owner is (although I know of a dealer in that area, but as far as I know he's in prison atm
) I have left a message with the ILPH so I'll have a chat with them when they get back to me. I'm not sure how much they can do either, but at least I know I've done all I can!
