If you suddenly came into money, would you change horses?

Oops it posted before I finished. But yeah, luxury massive stable for my boy - he would never go anywhere! Just add to that really :op He's number 1 & he knows it!

No! I'd invest serious money into daily schooling and lessons for my existing horses so they and myself could be at the top of our game!! Then I might buy a show-jumper, dressage horse, xc horse and an eventer to go on top of them. May throw in a top quality show horse to take to HOYs and a welsh A for inhand classes too!
Of course they'd all be kept at my own yard, with 24/7 turnout but spacious air conditioned stables and automatic water feeders that monitor drinking levels. No bucket filling but no water worries!! To excercise I would of course have a 4* cross country course with mini versions from 1ft+! There'd be a dressage arena of every size and a jumping and derby jumping arena, all on surface and again on grass with the options of roofs in winter. I'd have access to plentiful off road hacking but for those brief winter evenings I would have my own indoor floodlit gallops (of course there'd be a summer version too!) And then we'd have a huge storage room for feed and haylage, a lovely tack room, a horse gym complete with swimming pools, horse walkers and a solarium!! Oh and a heated walk through shower room and rug drying area!!

:D

No , i'd definately keep what i have, but I would put post and rail fencing in the paddocks, buy more land and have my house next to my stables instead of them being up the road.

No I would just get lots of training and keep the 2 I have.

I only have one and he is a little green, however I know with correct schooling he will be as much horse as I could ever want.
Money would just make it easier to have LOTS of lessons and training for both of us

I am due a bit of cash in a couple of years and will spend some on the training or us (that is if my ankle ever gets right):(

change my scatty half blind beautiful soul mate - lol no never shes my friend and always will be - no money can make up for the love she as given me - thank you baba - we will see life through together x x xx

Your going to need a very serious lottery win! :p hehe!

No i'd not, but i would treat myself to the gorgeous grey irish draft i just seen and the most beautiful red and white foal i've been drooling over since she was born, ahhh if only......

I already won the horsey lottery when I bought my mare, extra money would be nice so we could have our own place and a few companions. And a stonking great lorry with all mod cons.

Nope, he's my boy for life.
I would:
- Buy the best lorry I could afford and I can drive on a car license
-Take horse in lorry he is used to to a NH yard, leave him and new lorry there and pay them gazillions to get horse travelling alone in new lorry.
- Take horse and lorry back to current yard
-Travel several times a week to lessons at Talland and with Mary Wanless
-Either show, dressage, endurance or le trec the beast (Sadly I don't think even with an unlimited budget to be an easy jumper)

I do love my jumping but my horse is never going to be easy, maybe if our schooling improved our jumping might but I doubt we're ever got over 90cm. So maybe I'd get a push button jumper but then again, with enough cash I'll find something little horse is good at! :D

No I would keep my boy, I love him to much. But I would invest in lessons so we could be the best he can be and then I would get an eventing school master to teach me more so that I could then pass it on to my boy. Like lolo it would be around 15.2 (I'm not blessed with height) and be able to take me round a novice easily. I would also have some nice new tack especialy a dressage saddle for my current boy as I ride really long and the gp isnt helping much but it will do for now as it is super comfy and I love jumping in it.

Never ever ever would I sell!

I am so glad about everyone's response - I think it's disgusting if you sell your horse because you have got a lot of money and can "upgrade". I mean come on, they are not kitchen appliances!

No haven't fully explored her potential.yet and she is already worth her weight! But I would buy a second horse so I can have her all to myself rather than sharing with hobby!

Gosh if I came into money ...... it'd have to be horsewalker, horse solarium, new stable block, new customised/handmade saddle/bridle, name embroidered on rugs, personalised head-collar swanky name-plate above stable door; could afford a pair of Pikeur joddies!!, new ventilated hat, showing outfit; then we'd have a posh 4X4 with a nice trailer, or more probably a nifty little box to go to places.

Then I'd look for a place near some nice riding land; Exmoor, Dartmoor, or forest somewhere - or even better somewhere near the coast with our private beach so we could have a dip and gallop over some lovely golden sand whenever we chose.

Change the horse? nah never (but only if he's in ASBO mode!!! :))

Being practical, my horse suits me very well. He does everything I want a horse to do and suits my level of riding so I wouldn't look to change him. Oh, and I'm quite fond of the old bugger too :-)

I would spend more on lessons, get a little lorry and take him out competing more and I might even think about a younger model to run alongside him.

Definitely not! My lad is with me for the rest of his life; I can't imagine my life without him. But I would buy another, a very couple of good quality KWPN Gelderlander mare. They are getting to be a very rare breed and I would love to breed some.

Fany will never be sold either, but she belongs to my daughter and will go with her eventually.

Would not change where they live but would put in horse shower and solarium. Also rug wash /dry. But would never move my horses from their home, it has something money can't buy, good love and care when we can't be there.

No chance, I would just aim to improve their life even more by buying our own house/farm with plenty of grazing land (and maybe a couple of friends too ;) lol)

I, for some reason, have been thinking about this a lot recently. I've always wanted to event but due to having not a lot of money of my own or within the family i've never really competed/had a horse to compete with.

Now i'm a bit older and am earning money to pay for my own horses, struggling but managing. Both of mine i've taken on as projects so haven't needed lump sums to buy, so it's just the up keep. Major is obviously my boy, and he will probably be able to event at some point, and we're learning together. Don't get me wrong he will never set the world on fire, and neither will i but i thought to myself if i for instance won the lottery this friday would i sell him?

I am almost certain i wouldn't, but perhaps i would get an experienced competition horse to have alongside him. Without being too soppy he really is part of the family now and i can't imagine not having lord cheekiness about!

So guys, truthfully, really thinking about it... would you sell on and 'upgrade'?

Sell? Never! However, if I had a spare pot of money I WOULD buy myself a horse that was ready trained up to say medium dressage, could jump Foxhunters and more with ease, and be safe to hack out! That would cost lots of ££££ so just a pipe dream. Instead, I will retrain yet another quirky ex racehorse and take my life in my hands every time I hack out, whilst being launched into the stratisphere jumping 9 inch high cross poles :D

I wouldn't sell mine. I couldn't live with myself 'trading him in' for a better one, and I love my little ginger TB. :)

But, I would get a second horse. Either another TB or (more likely) a flash warmblood!

But unless unforeseen circumstances arise meaning it's impossible to keep him, my boy is with me forever!

No I would just spend the money on more lessons to get him right and buy a second horse to go along side him. My old pony will not be leaving me regardless either.
I quite often find myself dreaming about wining so much money and what I would do with it!

Yeah but no but yeah but no but well sort of.
I would buy the horse I worked with and rode last year. Parting of the ways with the owner meant I lost the ride. Horse I currently potter about on just doesn't excite me.
This is the boy I would buy and yes he is for sale. I just cant afford him :(
