as per the title, what would be your must haves:-
ie a wall, gate, water jump, skinny, double, treble and a couple of stand alone jumps?
Would you have a mix of colours or be colour co-oridinated ?
Would you have fancy jump wings, or basics?

I'd have to have the jump for joy fillers, they are great. They don't seem to have as many fillers built into tracks these days, at the riding club where I used to compete they had some very scary looking ones.

Now when I see videos of people jumping I'm gobsmacked that there aren't anywhere near the onslaught of scary fillers that there used to be.

Even the wings used to be exciting.

Maybe too many of us fell off and it was a health and safety issue! 😁

That chess filler is trippy.

I have jump wings and poles.
If money was no object I would have a mix of cross country and show jumping including tiger trap, barrels, steps, arrow head, liverpool water jump, fillers standing and hanging, a gate and a wall. I'd have a mix of colours but each jump would be coordinated.

Basic jump wings because they are lighter to move about and you can do more options with them. I always use wooden poles as better for teaching horses. You only need one filler. One plank pole and I don’t tend to use anything else. I use dressage boards a lot for under jumps as fillers. You essentially want to be able to build 2 x oxers and 3 x uprights as your bare minimum. I have just then added over the years with stuff bought 2nd hand.

Depends whether you are buying the jumps to hold competitions or just for training purposes.
For training I would prefer the lighter single post wings as much easier to move around. A fillet with different on either side and a set of planks.

The light ones are easy to move but blow over easily. There seems very little variety in jumping courses now. Never seem to see walls gates brush fillers, rustic fences, viaduct walls, triple bars any of the things that were common years ago, so as above, I think you just need some wings, poles and perhaps one set of fillers if it’s at homeschooling. Then we had a set of fences we even had rather posh road closed sign got on the other hand they would’ve been barrels and straw bales I’m sure. Used an old canvas tent to simulate a water tray probably not the safest thing but it served a purpose

I have one pair of these (bought second hand) and they are are probably the ones I use the most. They are light enough to carry, no faff with cups an don't blow over except in very strong wind. They've also done about 6 years with me, plus goodness knows how long elsewhere. The only downside is that the gaps between cups are fixed so you can only adjust in increments of probably 4", and sometimes you just want to go up an inch or two...

If you're buying a full course that needs to look professional and like an actual course rather than some jumps thrown in together, I'd buy plain, all white wings and then have various combinations of colour and white for poles and fillers. It makes it so much easier to set up when you can put any wings anywhere, plus if something breaks it's easier to just replace one part. My riding club had a set of wings and when one broke, they had discontinued the colour and we couldn't get one to match. We were fairly lucky that the jump was orange and black so we could buy two plain black wings but we still had to buy two wings rather than one. It also means that with enough poles you can make doubles and triples more easily without worrying about the colour matching e.g. we have two doubles in our set but can't really make a matching triple as even though we have enough poles we don't have wings to match. We sort of get round it if we need a triple by adding our plain white wings into the middle of our black red and white double set. If you look straight down the triple it looks fine but the white wings do stand out amongst the black and white ones from the side.

I'd also buy small fillers that you can put into jumps from about 60cm upwards. Some of the ones we have can't go in until 80cm and that means you need more poles and you're spending money on stuff you can't use that often. Same with skinnies or anything unusual, think about how much use you'll get out of the compared with a normal jump.

If buying for home/livery yard use (assuming a healthy budget) I'd go for a little of everything- plain natural coloured jumps with the option of brush fillers, water tray, brightly coloured show jumps and a couple of weird and wonderful fillers/wings. That way you've covered most of what you're likely to meet out and about.

I agree with this. Basically try to get hold of anything you might encounter at a show/out training.

I learned this the other day when I almost splatted due to a plank jump 🤣 it’s now on my list of things to build

great tips everyone, its for training at home, but I have dreamed about a set of jumps since i was about 10, and finally enough in the piggy bank to warrant a splash out - well it was that or a cruise of a lifetime... and the jumps have won lol
I honestly have poured over the various options on offer - for me there is a bit too much choice and I can be very OCD and need to have complete sets of things, so need someone to rein me in so to speak lol.

We have some of the jumps pictured. They’re not particularly heavy, just a little awkward (the chess set - the standard wings are easy to move two at a time) so I tend to cheat and pop them on the tractor forks to move them 😬

We have a variety - some plain, some scary. Planks, flags, water trays… we also have a ‘mini’ puissance wall. anything I hated having to jump at shows, I bought for at home so I had no excuses 😅

We hire out our facilities though so have a lot of different options to keep things interesting

I get this. I was a feet firmly on the floor dressage girl but years ago I treated myself to some poles, from one of the retailers who exhibits at Burghley (can't remember which).

I remember the woman looking at me like I'd got two heads when I said "I want pink and something, and purple and something, and the something needs to be the same. What would work?".

In the end I went with black!
