Depends, because if its someone I don't know and my horse is rapidly catching up I will shout and ask if its OK to pass. Not sure I'd be interested in riding with them unless they're going the same distance and pace as me - would chat as passing. Not sure your Poll accounts for that one. Having said that I know most of the people in my area and arrange to hack out with them before hand.
I would say 'Good morning' if I passed them (time of day dependent, obviously) and carry on.
Rather randomly, whilst hacking out on my well behaved mare, I have crossed paths with some woman on a Lusitano type, who shouted at me 'This is a stallion! A stallion!'
I wasn't quite sure why she was telling me....any thoughts?

Well, I ticked not sure, if I was passing I would just pass the time of day, if I was catchng them up I might ride with them, depends where they were going, how fast, how long they were going to be out for etc etc ...
If I knew them then I'd wait, or shout for them to wait for me (there's no chance of me ever catching anyone up!), but otherwise I just carry on with my ride and ignore them.
If their horse was desperate to overtake, or messing around, then I'd let them go past me, or give them a lead before carrying on my hack on my own.

I wouldn't ask to hack with them, would say hello to them if I were to pass them.

Ditto, unless it was someone I knew. If their horse looked a bit upset/on edge I would ask if it was safe to overtake/pass or offer to let them go first.
Nothing ruder than people who canter or trot past without asking permission and making little or no effort to slow down as they pass - my horse is as bombproof as they come but of course she's going to have a bit of a paddy if a strange horse comes thundering past out of nowhere. Shout first if you have no brakes!

That was just in case you hadn't noticed her looking terrified and doing passage-piaffe-passage sideways down the road while trying to get the mane out of her face...

I wondered if she was afraid I would manoeuvre my mare underneath her stallion
I've been in a dodgy situation involving this before. I was hacking out a very forward going hunter (working as a groom)and there was a girl plodding along the road in front of me. I caught her up and asked if it would be ok to pass - would she be alright? She said 'yes, fine' so I passed at a walk, then further down the lane I started trotting again.
Anyway...got round the corner and all of a sudden her horse (minus her) came bombiing past me...tried to catch it and missed, so I turned round and trotted back to make sure she was ok. She said she was fine and I offered to walk back with her. She said she would be fine thanks as she had called someone so I went back to the yard.
A couple of days later, my boss dragged me in the office and said that someone had called him and complained that they had been riding out and I had upset their horse, made them fall off and not offered to help!
I was fuming!
I'd usually say good morning and carry on as planned, but I have been known to join someone if we are going the same way.
I chose other, because it depends what speed they/I was doing, I wouldn't ignore them, I'd either hold back or ask to pass them.
Obviously if it was someone I knew I would have a yap!!
i am always hacking alone... i wish sometimes someone would stop ask if i would like to join them. I am not brave enough to ask. An offer would be nice though. I always smile and say hello and sometimes stop for a chat. a lonely happy hacker
i said speed up to get away from them ... as my mare can be stressy on here own so if there is a horse she doesnt know in front or behind she does stupid things to try to catch them up.
if im coming up behind slow riders i shout out to ask if i can walk past. which is normally a jog as mare is a stress head, when i get level i apologise and say my mare is too stressy to walk behind sensibly - which is true at the end of the day!!
Ive never asked to join anyone, only because I enjoy hacking on my own once a week as thats the only chance i get really. I feel quite anti social now!!
As we are normally driving, if they are coming to us we stop dead, and wait for them to pass. If they are ahead at the next junction we turn off.
Would say hello but never ask for company, it would be too much of a risk round here they'd be gypsies, see where we live and take the lot of or stuff.

Grrrrr, i hate people who are like this. There is a girl in my area who whenever shes at a show says 'Can you all move away please, im riding a stallion'
At the end of the day, if your having to act differently while riding a stallion, then you shouldnt be riding it! They should be no different to handle or in a ridden situation than any other horse!
I'd definitely say "hi" and make a random comment about lovely/miserable day to hack out and if they were going in same direction and seemed keen to chat, would ride along and chat for a bit 'cos I like a good blether!
Probably wouldn't deliberately speed up or slow down though and if they seemed happy left to their own devices, wouldn't bother them.
I always say hello and nice day (or similar) to anyone I pass- walkers, riders, farmers etc. Trying my best to convince the world (or my part of it!) that us horse riders are really a friendly bunch!
If I'm going the same way and at the same pace I'll ask if it's ok to ride along with them for a while. I wouldn't ask to hack out with them and we usually go seperate ways as there are so many livery yards round here, they are usually heading off in different direction. Most people are pleased for a bit of company, it's nice to meet different people and I haven't met anyone who doesn't want to talk about their horse!
I went for the run away option as pony tends to randomly have a tantrum if they are going in the opposite direction and has napped once or twice before.
If I didn't know them I'd probably just say Hi and carry on by myself. My horse would instantly decide the other horse was his best friend in the whole world and whinny constantly for the rest of the hack. He's not called Hullabaloo for nothing
As I have no one to ride with at the moment I would stop and chat and ask if I could join them. In fact, have done on many occasions and have resulted in some fab rides, usually over land Im not normally allowed on
Carry on riding on my own! I would say hello to them and either let them pass or ask to overtake but I don't do riding in company...far too much hassle!
V much depends. If one of local kids probably do my best to keep out of the way. If someone I knew, then wait/catch up. If my sometimes silly mare having a 'let me at 'em' moment then avoid them.
Sometimes mine don't care but I have been carted to join on other occasions so entirely depends
I will chat to anyone when I am out and about - but at the same time dont take offence if people want to ride alone - This is probably something I get from Endurance as long distance is always gonna be better with a bit of company! If you dont make the first move and say hello - mind if i join you for a bit - how will you ever get to know people? (saying this - I still have a complete inability to walk into a pub alone in case people look at me!!
(Edited to say - i dont tend to deliberately speed up etc, but spooks operates at warp speed to we always seem to be overtaking other people - who often comment how much more exciting life at our speed is!!)

It's people like this who give stallions a bad name - My friends stallion is one of the best behaved horses i know - yet people have been known to turn around in the road and trot their horses away!! I have no idea where his devil horse reputation comes from (chestnut arab?!)

I think the stallion owner didn't want my mare to pass (they were going in opposite directions) as her stallion may not behave. I reckon it is my job to control my mare (not difficult) and hers to control her horse, stallion or not.
