If you were hacking alone....

why do you think kids (ie under 18) smoke?

I will chat to anyone when I am out and about - but at the same time dont take offence if people want to ride alone - This is probably something I get from Endurance as long distance is always gonna be better with a bit of company! If you dont make the first move and say hello - mind if i join you for a bit - how will you ever get to know people? (saying this - I still have a complete inability to walk into a pub alone in case people look at me!!

[ QUOTE ]
Rather randomly, whilst hacking out on my well behaved mare, I have crossed paths with some woman on a Lusitano type, who shouted at me 'This is a stallion! A stallion!'
I wasn't quite sure why she was telling me....any thoughts?

It's people like this who give stallions a bad name - My friends stallion is one of the best behaved horses i know - yet people have been known to turn around in the road and trot their horses away!! I have no idea where his devil horse reputation comes from (chestnut arab?!)

[/ QUOTE ]

I think the stallion owner didn't want my mare to pass (they were going in opposite directions) as her stallion may not behave. I reckon it is my job to control my mare (not difficult) and hers to control her horse, stallion or not.

Sorry if this came across wrong - this wasn't aimed at you being the person who gives stally's a bad name - I was meaning the lade that shouted that too you - if she can't control it, she shouldn't have it - and it should still have the same manners as every other horse - Bollocks or not!!

I agree - if you are in control of you own that is as much as you can do!!

I wouldn't ask to hack with them, would say hello to them if I were to pass them.

If it was someone I knew well I would go and ride with them if I thought they wouldn't mind, but I usually arrange before hand anyway, otherwise carry on alone after saying hello. If they are going faster than me, so I wouldn't be able to continue without them following, I hate following people, so i would change paths to get away

I would say 'Good morning' if I passed them (time of day dependent, obviously) and carry on.

Grrrrr, i hate people who are like this. There is a girl in my area who whenever shes at a show says 'Can you all move away please, im riding a stallion'
At the end of the day, if your having to act differently while riding a stallion, then you shouldnt be riding it! They should be no different to handle or in a ridden situation than any other horse!

[/ QUOTE ]

Grr pet hate of mine too! We show a colt (due to be kept entire) in-hand and take full responsibility for handling him - its up to us to make enough room in front and the person behind should leave enough room behind for any horse regardless of balls or age, its certainly not anybody else's responsibility to mind out of our way any more than they would any other horses - I'll admit to being a bit rude to people who have cut me up a few times but it makes no difference if I was on a gelding or stallion! I'll never forget the lady with a shetland stallion we see at local shows who used to be v rude and shout at whoever was following her (usually me with big 15.2 welshie - not the best planning on my behalf, but he was being very good!) to KEEP BACK HE'S A STALLION - several times each class - judge's face was often a picture - for the record we left miles of space in between and passed with miles to spare. We just assume she was scared of it, but it never put a foot wrong.

Maybe we're not giving lustiano woman enough credit - maybe she just wanted you to know how gooood her horse was

- I think she was probably scared of it and blaming you instead of herself...

ETS by the way I will be taking the colt in the same class as shetland stallion woman and thoroughly look forward to getting my revenge...
