As the title, if you were in the market to buy a new horse what would you buy and why?

i'm pondering another one and cant decide between a youngster, an older schoolmaster type, a traditional cob, a sports horse etc. I supose the answer is to go and look at a few and see what grabs me, but it made me wonder what type other people would go for and why :D

I would be buying a safe cobby alrounder for myself and my daughter,8-15 years old around 14-2hh for her to do pony club/jumping and for me to have a plod about on a few times a week :)

A lovely little native of some sort to have fun with.
Already have my first horse who is the most amazing all rounder cob ever and an ex racer mare who is growing on me by the day :£

There is a fabulous Morgan breeder up the road from me and I've been eyeing up her youngsters for a while :)

I would be looking for a younger version of my boy. Not the same breed or colour - just good on the ground, perky to ride and great to hack.

Ideally I'd be looking for a Shire x. Getting older so I'll love an armchair ride with a bit of character :D

i've got a real hankering for an arab and have been browsing Arabian Lines, but I'm not sure I really want one. I fell in love with an arab mare once, but she wasnt a particularly typey arab. If I could find one like her, I'd snap it up!

She was possibly a Crabbet. My grey is 60 something % Crabbet and most non-arab people love her.

If I were to buy now I would probably get a foal or yearling as I don't need another ridden one at the moment. Would look for something to make about 17hh, Warmblood, ISH or TBx, something that moves nicely and would have a bit of scope too. Wouldn't really mind what colour or sex.

A palomino colt foal. Seen on Arabianlines. I think he's gorgeous and if I could I most definitely would snap him up. Husband says "NO!"

Depends what I wanted it for ;)

Breeding - would have to be palomino (because I like yellow horses) either APHA or AQHA and specific bloodlines.

Showing/Trail/Endurance - would have to be a Paso.

Trail/Extreme racing - Arab, QH or Paint.

I have just bought a lovely little 4yo warmblood from my instructor. He has the most lovely attitude and a nice pop on him. I can't wait to see how he improves :)

I have always gone for younger horses, I prefer them at the age where they've been backed and are ready to go on.

I'm looking at the moment, I'm just coming off a native type l/w cob so I want to treat myself to something more horse like. 15-16hh all rounder who can do all rc activities and a reasonable dressage test and is a nice hack too. Probably ISH type, not keen on TBs.

it would either be a SJ schoolmaster for me, to get me out jumping real courses.
Or the most beautiful black foal i have seen that is way out of my league in terms of price. Moves beatifully, well bred and look like black beauty. Totally smitten, just need lots and lots of £££:(

In dreamland an Akhal Teke :p in reality I'm a bit taken with trotter types. Found a lovely beautifully marked yearling on DD but don't have a field to plonk it in until it grows :( .

Youngster, to make no more than 16hh any colour but grey or coloured with mostly white ( I can be a bit OCD with cleaning my dark horses as it is :o).

I would be looking at Welshies and crosses, Connies and crosses (both with TB would be ideal) also small ISH would fit the bill. If I could find a decent hardly raced exracer then would consider but wouldnt be top of the list.

A large breed native foal - I like to have ponies from babies so we know what they've done before we back them. Still trying to make up my mind about breed - I love certain lines of New Forests, would like a Connie if it wasn't grey, Fells are really glamorous, Dales look fun, and Highlands are like giant Shetlands so I'm sure are full of character. And of course the Welshies offer beauty, power and fabulous personalities :D

I'd go for a gelding (so doesn't upset the other geldings i have) around 5-9yrs old, 16-17hh probably WB or ID :D

A schoolmaster eventer, I have one retired and one very lovely and green horse who I will not rush but would love to be out doing big stuff now!
