.....would you sell it?

With all these posts about how much people pay etc, I just wondered how everyone views their horse(s).

I wouldnt sell mine for 10 times her value. She is with me for life, even if I had to work a night job to keep her.

What are everyone elses thoughts??

Mmmm, this is a difficult one. We have only had our current pony for a few months and are still bonding with him and daughter getting used to him. We really like him and he's starting to do the job we bought him for, but I have to confess that I would have to think about such an offer. If the home was really nice and I knew they would look after him and do a 'job' with him, then possibly I would, because with twice what he's worth, I could buy my daughter a really top pony. But having said that my emotional side would balk because we're getting to love this pony and he's such a character we can't help but love him already.

This could be quite a conundrum!

We're very attached to our horse & we couldn't sell him...... it would be like selling one of the children....... actually it would be easier to sell one of the children!

No one is going to offer me anything for my retired mare, mills was only £800 so to offer double would make her £1600 and i wouldnt bother for that.
Baby is still a baby so even if i say shes valued at £1k, offering me £2k isnt much either.

Noone would want my yearling...

Erm... Thinking, thinking and still thinking depends if I was desperate for money

Did get offered £1500 more than I paid for him.......could not be that mean, not to him,but to the people that brought him!

If someone offered me double for either of mine I would sell. Much as I love them both there are other horses out there. That makes me sound very hard but believe me there would still be some tears if either was to go.

Yes!!!!!!!

Would vet home first, but most certainly if home was suitable.

Being fussy, but it would have to be a hunting home.

ETA - I sound way too keen...but just to say I and my entire family adore her (she even came on holiday with us) and I would be very upset, but as someone else said there are other horses out there.

Absolutely not!!!
When I have an animal, that animal stays with me for life. I have such a strong bond with J that I couldnt do it. It would mean I could get a shiny new horse, but it wouldnt be J.

I have 2 jobs to keep J and he is worth it.

J has bone spavin, a split DDFT last year, side bone, slight RAO and melanomas and I still wouldnt part with him for any amount of money.

Funnily enough this did happen to me a couple of weeks ago... 2 people who came to check my horse's saddle said if I ever sell him to let them know... I later found out they were prepared to part with double what I paid for him just 3 months ago!!! I was really surprised, as he is only working at novice level and hasn't done much.

But there is no way I would sell him, I only just bought him! I want to see how he turns out, that is the exciting part.

nope, my 2 aren't for sale and never will be, they are perfect for what i want in a horse and they are one of the family, small naughty pony will be sold when daughter has outgrown him but i doubt anyone would offer me double his value pmsl!! I'd get more money weighing him in at a pedigree chum factory

1 isn't worth anything over meat money and he's not going anywhere, whatever the offer.

My 4yo would be sold if I was offered twice his value, any takers?

on a good day, no chance, I wouldn't sell him for any amount of money. When he's being a pain tho I would give him away

Only joking, for some reason I still adore the monster even then!

Never, ever, ever, ever would we sell, they could offer us a seven figure sum and no sale. My horses are worth far more than money to me.

I was offered £3000 for Mony, when she was younger and to be honest she was prob only worth about £1000 in the early 90's. I refused so they upped the offer (a friend who was desperate for a quiet guarenteed safe pony for her daughter).

She is priceless to me and so is my daughters NF, apartf from the fact that my hubby would kill me if I sold the ponies his kids adore!

Umm I price my selling horses at what they are worth

. Can't imagine someone coming along and saying "ooh you have him advertised for 10K, can I buy him for 20K" ... would be lovely if they did though

.

If you mean would I sell for double the price I paid, more than likely not, unless the market had dropped or I really needed the money. I try to work on a profit of at least 3 times what I paid, but generally 4 times.

No wouldn't sell Blue

Paid £950 for him at market, been offered £10,000 for him and didn't take it

Ummm let me think, double of Zero is Zero......so probably not!!!

Seriously, no I wouldn't as my mare is my friend (soppy I know), but as she is not worth an awful lot as she's broken, then its all a bit academic for me!

Jethro (shetland) yes- I'd snap their arm off as I'm looking at selling him anyway, Amber, maybe- depends on the home.

Septre will never ever be sold. We (mum and I) bred her and she isnt worth much anyway (priceless to us though).

Funnily enough, I wouldnt ever sell Binky, even though I havent had him long. He's a special little chap.
