After the sad loss of my mare, i am now looking for something to take her place sadly, i had her very under insured, and now have been looking for the last couple of weeks, but i havent even rung about another horse yet. Everything i see in my price range seems miles and miles away or alot of money for what it is, maybe i'm just looking to soon. Now i am starting to think if i should look at something under 3 yrs to bring on, i have been lookin on H&H, horsemart and horsehunter can anyone tell me of any where else i can look and do you think it is possible to find something for that price range might have to start saving up

Hi, that would be brilliant thanks. Ok i am looking for something min 14.3hh to max 16.2ish,max 14 yrs not bothered if i have to bring on, or even unbroken, would prefer medium weight but also would like ex racer type i am in lincolnshire/yorkshire area thanks

horse quest? I've been looking in this price range recently and it mainly seems to be youngsters. I only found my horse when I stopped looking! Hope you find your horse soon.

If I could be completely logical and wait a while I would do the following...

I'd work out how much I spend on livery each month (get a bit scared of the big numbers) and then try to work out how long I could bear to be without a horse for, while I save up all the livery I am not paying... If you are paying £350/month then maybe try to wait 4 months, you'll double the amount you have to spend and be able to buy in autumn when it's cheaper.

Easier said than done though. Good luck.

Hi Lozzah,

£1500 is the most we've ever spent on a horse, and he was really over-priced and bought him because he needed rescuing!

For £1000 we got Blackjack - he was 14 years old, Ex-BSJA showjumper, 15.2 hh but had sweetitch.

For £500 we got Squizz - he was 16 (? I think?!), Ex-BE Eventer, 16.2 hh, hadn't been ridden for 2 years and was perfect for Jenny as a schoolmaster into horses (she was only 13 then)

Both of these came from the local free magazine (Blackmore Vale based in South Somerset/Dorset), but there should be a similar one near you? Keep on looking - they are all out there! Don't be put off by trying to find the perfect horse - that isn't out there. Be realistic about what you want and can cope with and be prepared to give, but you will get there in the end!

Good luck!
