How do you tell and what do you do about it?

My girlie has been abit sluggish past few days and seems to be sweaty when shes not even doing anything-i thought she had a temperature but she would NOT let me check at all.

well because pickles tendency to anemia if he isn't well he is usually lethargic and has white gums so I look out for that. He tends to get anemia alongside any other problem he has! so he gets regular blood tests and constant supplements

If I am the slightest bit worried I call the vet. Mine is very good and will give advice over the phone. Ring your vet and see if he thinks he needs to come out.

The only real way to tell is to take her temperature. Mine went through a period where he seemed prone to pick up any virus going. Each time he became lethargic, quiet, depressed and had a raised temperature. Vet can come out and take bloods to confirm.
You know your horse and if you think she's not right I'd go down the vet route.

It has been a lot hotter the past few days- maybe she's just feeling the heat?

If you're not sure, get the vet to blood test her

Thats the problem, ive only had her a month so i dont really 'know' her properly enough.

She does seem rather sweaty but she does have a lot of winter coat left?

It's probably the weather. If I was that worried about my horse I am lucky enough to have my vet's mobile number and I can call her and chat to her. I'm supposed to make appointments via reception but I've lost track of the number of times I've called my vet's mobile only to be told she is coming out and will be with me in an hour

My point is, if you have a good vet and are really worried then you should be able to just have a chat about it

Hmm, i may call my vet tomorrow (also have a mobile number!)

I do think the weather has a part to play possibly but i am a worry worm at the best of times and when being ridden shes fab and not lethargic at all.

What about naf pink powder? if she has a virus would this help out at all?
