If your horse

Lost a shoe and pulled a chunk of hoof wall off with it. Is it normal to put a shoe on that sticks out further than the hoof wall?

I have seen this done before but usually a filler is used to provide further support. Not really sure what the other options would be in this case if the horse has to be shod. I am sure someone with more experience of this will be along shortly.

I've only ever experienced this once and a type of filler was used on that occasion. There may be other ways though
