would you rather have people respond to your ad, or do people actually respond to wanted ads? Looking for a loan of the kind of horse that is like hens teeth to buy anyway (15.2+, fun, straightforward, vice free, all round nice person for busy mum to enjoy without fearing for her life if she hasn't been able to get up and ride for a few days) and not sure whether to put out my own wee ad or not, as there seems to be a massive flux of them at the moment (in my area especially - upper half of Scotland) All thoughts welcome.....and if you're a Scottish H+H'er with suitable sounding horse looking for a job, please do shout!

Have you thought about a retired polo pony? They need to be kept with others, but there are many which are not able to play but would enjoy light work. In general they are easy to handle. I don't use fb anymore, but there was a group called (I think) 'retired and ex polo ponies' or similar. My friend took one on loan as a companion / light hack and they have a lovely time hacking around her farm. Not the right thing if you want to jump or do any serious work, but if you are looking for a nice sane happy hacker there might be one to suit.

Despite my slight wimpy tendencies, I do jump up to 80/would be having regular lessons/might have a bash at BD or a ODE if my sanity temporarily left me, but thank you for the suggestion

When I was putting my mare out on loan, I didn’t look on Facebook. I contacted local riding/pony clubs to see if they had any members looking and said to instructors/farrier.

She’s in a lovely home now that came through pony club. I got my boy on loan by Facebook though as I was a friend of a friend and seen the advert. I think it’s just luck. I’m in the central belt and have seen quite a few advertised for loan as people go off to uni/winter is closing in.

hope this helps, good luck x
