as it said how big a horse will fit in a 505 i have one and use it for my 15hh sec d s but have been to look at a small wagon but the head height is onlt 6ft 6ins which is less than th ifor which is 7ft , i thought i would need at least 7ft in a box ,anyway the box owner says her horse is 15.2hh and fits in fine but i didnt see the horse so not sure if it is or not .
so question is how big are your horses that you travel in a 505 and would 6ft 6ins be enough

thanks to all who help

I think the 505 is meant to take up 1to 16.2hh but I reckon that's a tad tight. My mare is only 15.2 but has the head, length and width of a 16.2hh and although she just fits in lengthways I'd rather she had more room. I certainly wouldn't want any less headroom than that.

Perhaps you could email some of the horsebox companies on the net and ask them what their headroom is like and get a general feel for what is considered the norm? For example, go onto the Equi-trek website and they give their dimensions for you.

Friend's horse is 15.1 Arab and he travels in a 505. If he stands with his head up, his ears just about touch the ceiling and I know she certainly wouldn't travel him with less headroom. My mare is 17hh and our lorry has 7ft 8in headroom which gives her enough room.

They are supposed to be for upto 16.2hh however I always feel that my horses (15hh, 16.1hh and 16.3hh) are more comfy in the hb510.
Having said that my o,d horse was 17.1hh and I went to see him going xc on sunday and was shocked to watch him and another 15hh horse pop out of a 505. I'm pretty sure it can't have been comfy for him but they assured me that he always travels like this

My boy (16.3 skinny TB with a very proud wither) travelled ok in a 505 - he even popped into an old Rice that has even lower headroom. I think it depends on the type of horse, how well they load and how well they travel.

I think I frightenned my horse by putting him in a 505 and put him off trailers for good, he is 16.1 and mw. We never got the ramp up as he was just too big and I dont think I could have got the breach bar up and thats without the centre partition. He did go in my old 505 as a 4 yr old without any problems but he was gangly then and smaller.
My friend though travels her well built 16.3 in a 505 with no problems, no partition.
I reckon 6' 6 is too low, sorry.
