Hi,

what's are peoples experiences with an Ifor 506? Our neighbours are selling one, it's 2011 and only been used by current owners a few times as they also have a lorry.

we have a 13.1hh Fell pony but would also like to be able to carry friends ponies/horses from the yard on certain occasions (fun rides etc). I feel comfortable towing a smaller box than a larger one but need to be sure it will do the job.

Thankyou

. I’ve got a 506, had it about 3 years and it’s been great. I really like it ?. I mostly use it for one, but had 2 in it no problem.

Think it was teething problems with the design. There are previous threads on it.

I own a mk 2 506 and really like it.

I have a 511 mk 2 which I love. Before that I had a 505. At 18yo it was starting to get old and Robin really didn’t fit in it. They say the 505/506 take 2 x 16.2 but I wouldn’t out anything bigger than a 16hh in. Robin (and soli) travelled without the partition which helped but still lacking in head room

As said if it is a mk2 then go for it. If mk 1then don’t. I’m not sure there is much difference between towing a 506 and 511.

Poor build quality.

Main issue was the front nose area, which was plastic and flimsy in the Mark 1. Horses came through it. There were other issues, too.

Mark 2 much improved. Metal front nose.

Yes, okay i know the one you are talking about. Those are dangerous, saw one at our yard and you could push the front panel in no problem. No i dont have a Mark 1. However I would like a lighter box for sure.

Hi, I think it is a mark 2. It's a 2011 model. How would I be able to tell this? Thanks

The Mk1 was built up until May 2011, then the Mk2 followed from then. I believe that the main difference, that's easy to identify, is that the earlier (weaker) front panels had a recess for turning the handle on the jockey wheel, see below circled in red.

The later Mk2 have a flush smooth front with no recess.

Hi, Just to say that it would be worth getting the tyres checked. I recently sold my IWT 505 trailer and although it hadn't been used much over the years (and had been looked after and services etc), and there was plenty of tread still left on the tyres, when I had them checked out, they were actually perished in places. I had them all replaced it was about £230 in total, but I couldn't have risked someone buying the trailer and having a tyre fail whilst they were towing.

Thankyou all so much for your replies. I've read that they don't have anywhere to hand haynets? How have you managed to get round this? Thankyou

they are usually fitted with a rail above the front ramp. You can then buy a ring with a backing, that fits in to the rail and you screw in the ring which allows you to move the ring closer or further away. I *think* the rail above the front ramp is fitted as standard but if you need one for the other side you have to buy the rail too. Mine came with the rail but the ring was about £10. It takes a bit of fiddling to get the back plate thing in place and then screw in but it would have helped if I had stood on something to reach! I can take a picture of mine tonight if that would help.
