Ifor Williams boxes on ford transit bodies

A lot of people don't like them and say they are unstable. I've hired one a few times and have found it fine. The ramp is pretty steep but the horses seem to travel well in it. I haven't noticed it feeling unstable at all. I find it very easy to drive and manoeuvre.

Thanks appylass.

ROG do you think they look like a complete nightmare? I'm just after something for my 14hh cob and occasionally him and a similar sized pal.

I used to hire one before I bought my trailer.

GOOD POINTS
It drove like a car - so easy compared to a big box or trailer.
Wider compartments than a trailer - fitted bigger horses in..
Storage over the top of the cab for rugs/tack.

BAD POINTS
Really steep ramp - was rubber and when raining it was slippy - my mare went on her knees once going up it - easily fixed by some wood on the ramp if its your own..

Generally I thought it was really nice. I would swop my trailer for one any day!

I used one once, horse travelled fine in it, but I had to travel along the M5 and it did feel rather unstable. Probably down to being a tall vehicle with a relatively narrow wheelbase and sometimes when the body is fitted, the springs are left as standard when they should be uprated. Ramps are steep, but having the gates helped. Lots of room in the luton too.

I'd consider one, but I'd want the suspension set-up sorted.

As has been said the ramps are pretty steep & it's been mentioned that their stability is questionable. I've not used one but I remember one turning into a lorry park at one show & it really looked like it was going to topple over. :( It didn't but it looked frightening.

I'm not anti 3.5 ton boxes, there are some good ones out there but after what I've seen I couldn't trust a transit/IW conversion.

i hired one and loved it! the only downside was the bays were huge and my 15hh cobs rattled around a bit ,but they travelled brill and was really easy to drive. id buy one!
