This is going to sound a really daft questiono_O

My Ifor Williams trailer needs a new electrical socket/plug. I have someone that will change it, however on going to buy a new one, the current one has only 8 pins ( 13 pin socket but only 8 active pins which is the case for trailers I believe) do I need to get another with 8 pins or will a 13 pin work too?

o_Oo_Ocompletely puzzled!

Thinking again. A dumb moment. Surely if there's no wires behind the extra pins then the extra pins won't cause harm?!

You can easily change the electrics on an Ifor to the new plug sustem, but if the tow vehicle still has the old system you'd need an adaptor to connect the two.

We changed the trailer electrics from the old type when we bought a new tow vehicle to which we had fitted a brand new tow bar + electrics.

Not sure how complicated it is to upgrade the tow vehicle electrics to the new system.

Oh no we don't have to change it in that sense- car is 13pin and trailer is newer style ifor williams so 13 pin too. I just need to change actual trailer socket as a bit of water has got in it while parked up, electrics are slightly squiffy so going to change the plug in the hope that it solves the problem.

Awh thank you for that! I've managed to get in touch with man changing it, he insists that a normal 13 pin will be fine even if all pins aren't required.

Picking up on this thread as we have to change our plug on our trailer which is only one year old so is the 13 pin. Iver must pull out the unused pins so the rest are loose and unreliable. So Holeymoley did your guy just re wire and leave extra pins in place as we also have a 13 pin plug on our car. I am loathed to do what Iver must do as I don't want the same problem in a few months.

Hi, yes all pins are intact, it’s only the ones with the active wires in them that work. The others just sit in their slots.
