Hi all,

After many years of waiting, saving and begging for lifts off other people I am now in a position to buy my very own trailer! The aim is to buy one, practise, practise, practise and then sit my trailer test - currently don't have a trailer that I can practise with.

I've been looking at the IFor Williams as all the people I know who have them say they are reliable trailers and although something like an equitrek would be nice, unfortunately I don't have that sort of budget. So I've looked at the 510 and 505 and from experience and others opinions, most have recommended the ifor HB 510.

However, I am wanting to come up with a list of non-negotiables.

First and foremost, aluminium flooring is a must for me. With decent ramps - but not sure what to particularly look for in respects to looking at them in person to make sure they are up to scratch. Also rubber matting.

Again brakes and lights are important. But again not sure how to doubly check for these.

Ventilation in the roof is preferable as I think it is a nicer ride for them.

My budget is around £2000.

But any advice and suggestions from you all would be absolutely amazing.

Thanks in advance,

Kiri

Not sure you'll find one in your budget unfortunately. I've been looking at 510s for ages and they hold their value really well. Most go for around 3-4K.

What size is your horse? As above I think you will struggle with your budget. If your horse is 16.2 or under and you intend to take just one horse then a 505 is ideal.

Ali flooring is nice but a wooden floor in sound condition is just as safe, and doesn't cost that much to replace if you have any doubts.

Ramps are easy to check, rubber matting is easy to replace, ventilators are easy to put in.

Lights are fairly cheap to put right.

But brakes can cost a lot more than you think...

So..perhaps the checklist should be tweaked a bit?

If you aren't confident about what you should be looking for PLEASE find someone who will check for you. You might even be able to come to an arrangement with a dealer that once you've found one you like, you'll buy it subject to the seller driving it to the delaer for an inspection. But some dealers will nit-pick to the nth degree...so you need one who will be firm but fair...

Also, the Ifors are nice but depending on what you are going to travel, what about an older Rice in great nick? Your budget is tight for a good 510 IMO.

I will definitely be taking someone who is more experienced in this area. Luckily I have a few people who I will be able to call on! I can up my budget if needed, but I have seen some for £2250 which I would be willing to pay.

All this has been fab advice!

Ideally a 510 would be better as I have a 15.2 and my sister a 16.2 which we often take out together, so having a 510 would allow if I were to get something bigger in the long run.

Brakes at the top of the list then! Thank you.
