Do you rate them as trailers? I want a big trailer to take my two horses out in and would like to know people's experience of them good or bad please.

I have seen a nice one advertised local to me that is 3 years old and has the alloy floor. I had a Bateson Deauville a few years ago but sold it when we had regular use of a lorry. I did like the trailer very much but it was just a little on the cramped size with two horses in. So thought I would go for something bigger. Do the Ifors give the horses a good ride? and does anybody know what type of suspension an Ifor 510 has? ( ie The Batesons are fitted with Avonride ) Thanks

A 3yo trailer will be great! They are excellent and you should not have any trouble with 2 horses in it - providing you have the right towing vehicle of course! I wouldn't have any other trailer!

i love my trailer, it's easy to 'use', tow, hitch up and everything.

i've towed a bateson, chevelle and a rice trailer and they didn't tow as nice as the IW, but that's just my opinion though! :)

i also travel a 17.2hh ID and a 16.2 TB and they both have a nice bit of room in there, neither are squashed in their side.

They are a good solid if a little agricutual,
have leaf springs which are crude and noisy but strong, I had a bateson ascot which i sold to buy a lorry, I borrowed a nearly new 510 for a trip to cambridge 160 miles you will need a big vehicle to tow it and they arent as nice as a bateson to tow or as well finished ..
make sure you try it before you buy ....

Thanks for your input folks. I have a diesel Landrover discovery for towing so it should be upto the job!

Yes, the one thing I was concerned about was the ' clumsy' suspension on the ifors of which some do say doesn't give such a good ride, but they seem to be a popular trailer, so can't be all bad.

I did love my Bateson but like I said, not really roomy enough inside with two horses in. I hope I have made the right decision!!!

love the Ifors, hated the Bateson with a passion, far far far too flimsy. Having had a horse write a trailer off on the old Severn bridge and close the motorway for an hour I can safely say the only trailer I would spend my money on is an Ifor. I want a trailer that will keep my horse in it. I want a trailer that will stick to the road and not just disintegrate round him should he have a major panic attack for an unknown reason. I have travelled 2 large horses, many many many miles in an Ifor and have never had any problems at all. in fact i am on my second one now. I bought my first about 15 years ago and only sold it because i bought a lorry. Then I decided as I was only travelling 2 horses and had a big 4x4 i might as well sell the lorry and get another 510. I still have it 4 years on and it still looks as good as new. Horses travel really well in it.

I love our 510. We pull it with a discovery too. One of the horses is 17h, the other 16h, both ISH, and they have tons of room. I find them a really light, airy trailer. We do journeys up to 100 miles with it, and they travel really well. Its taken a lot of punishment over the years from kicks, without a mark. Mr Mechanic (hubby) says its one of the safest and best made...
