Hi all! I’m new to towing and my mind is pretty blown with the whole weight/MAM/kerb weight of trailers and what you can and can’t tow! But my main question is that on our trailor the plate states that the ifor Williams trailer (HB511) it weighs 1400 but everywhere I look including the official IW brochure the 511 weighs 1000kg?! This is obviously a big difference! Can anyone help/advice me please

Do you have B or B+E on licence?
Can you post a pic of the weight plate as it could be that it has been down plated from 2700 to 1400
The unladen/empty weight will still be 1000

It may be worth putting this in a separate thread to get more answers. To me it looks like the body from a 7.5t has been put on which would explain why it’s so heavy, but that could be the angle of the photo. I’ve not come across a 3.5t that has that much living space.

It does seem huge Vehicle to me but the v5 says 3.5 now Iv taken it to a weigh bridge and it’s 3,200 it just doesn’t make sense I’m in panic mode now

Sorry, you are right, the payload as it is now is 300kg :(.

You could start a new thread in tack room re 'very low payload on a 3.5t' and see what additional answers you get.

I don't know if uprating is possible even if you wanted to go down that route, that's a hefty old body on lightweight underpinnings.

Iv rang iveco as I wasn’t sure if it’s bigger than it says on the v5 and been down rated but they said they couldn’t tell me but they did say uprating wasn’t possible because of the age it is

I’m sure it is a 3.5t base vehicle but the box part looks like what would be on a 7.5t which makes the box part heavier than a horse area made for a 3.5t vehicle. It’s not fit for purpose so if you can send it back for a refund. The only other option would be to completely strip everything out of the living which may give you a bit more payload but not much

I hope it works out for you. Sounds like the lady either didn’t know or possibly playing ignorant. It’s may be worth speaking to citizens advice or if you have a legal helpline on your home/horse insurance to see what your options are

it is ta
Looks like it was a 4500kg then down plated to 3500
I know this because the total of the axle weights add up to 4600 and they allow 100 so loading can be a little flexible
If you have a pre 1997 licence you can get it uprated back to 4500 and it will then be a LGV C1 vehicle which in turn means different MOT rules etc

It just didn’t look like a 3.5T but was saying on the V5 it was and so was the seller it just didn’t make sense then like I say after a Trip to the bridge I was in shock to find we had 300kg to work with on such a large lorry it make sense now that actually it isn’t a 3.5t and someone has down rated it witch seems so stupid with that payload I spoke to someone yesterday and he said I can’t up rate it because it’s a 55 plate and iveco won’t let him is this correct info @ROG or did he just not want the job

If it has been down rated then it can legally be uprated back to its original GVW of 4500
Only current issue is that DVLA are on industrial action

It was him I contacted yesterday he said it can not be up rated if it could I no someone that would buy it off me so if it can not be it’s worthless
DVLA must have the original specs
You could try the online check vehicle tax and mot history for possible past info
