Having a problem finding a place to keep our trailer, as yard closing and won't have space to park it (although on the good side, we have managed to secure some grazing!).. worst come worst we might look into trying to park on our drive, which would need a bit of work, but the main problem is getting it up our very, very narrow road!

I think a double trailer would *just* fit, but seeming as we can only tow one horse anyway with our car, I'm beginning to think that looking at the single trailers might be a good idea.

A quick search doesn't come up with much- are they quite hard to get hold of? Do they hold their value well and how much would you expect to pay?

For those who have them, how do you find them to use? I like having the spare partition on the double for all my kit- would there be enough room at the front of a single for this?

Thanks :)

I was looking at single trailers, especially ifors and I very rarely found one, and when I did it was the other side of the country. So I gave up my search for single ifors and I'm looking at different trailers now.

Ifor Williams single trailers are hard to find but well worth the search, they are robust, roomy & well balanced. I downsized from a double & only found a single by using Google & then had to travel a good distance for it. I've no regrets though.

One went on eBay last night for £1850 that was a 2007 model. You don't come across them too often though as people seem to like them :)

Those I listed earlier are just some of the few that B (not B+E) licence holders seek as they can be used for B licence towing
That may be why they are in short supply on the second hand market

Thanks very much for the replies everyone, really helpful. :)

wench- Yes, although our towing vehicle only just squeezes up our road (think narrow cul-de-sac with cars parked along it and wall the other side!) :o

ROG- really helpful thanks- so does that mean that once I've passed my driving test I can tow one off a standard licence without needing a separate towing test? Sorry not very clued up!

So they hold their value well then? I was under the impression that not many people wanted them.. as when we were looking for our double trailer loads of singles kept popping up but no good for us! x

they are like hens teeth and really hold their value- I currently have a single ifor its 4 yrs old and one of the classic versions - bought it new. My horse travels very well in it, you have space at front for a tubtrug, brush and shovel and haynet. Not much more.
I have a freelander and it doesnt even notice the trailer is there, I towed my horse 200 miles in it yesterday to the specialist vets and it towed like a dream.

For those of you looking for a single trailer - mine will be for sale once i have managed to get myself a little automatic horsebox (also hens teeth!!!!) as i want to get a little car and have a little box but only drive automatic!!! then both freelander and trailer will get sold - and i dont envisage it hanging around long as they are so few and far between but very much wanted.

YES - but under certain rules which often means contacting the trailer manufacturer and having it downplated - very cheap or free and easy to do

The link in my signature below leads to a very long HHO TOWING CLINIC thread that has plenty of legal B only licence towing examples in it :D

If you go down the towing on a B licence route then please feel free to pose a question in that thread with what you are intending to tow and what with (vehicle, trailer & weight of horse)

I absolutely LOVE my Ifor Williams single trailer! (HB403) Bought it new a couple of years ago. Chose this one as, after it was downplated, I could tow it with my B licence. As it isn't any wider than my car, it's great to tow too.
There isn't much room in the front for extras though. I tend to put stuff in the back of my car. I was also a bit disappointed when we went to pick it up as the dealer didn't have a single one in when we went to look at them so we looked at a double equivalent which had a long front window. I (wrongly) assumed that mine would have one too but, due to it being narrower, it didn't for stability apparently. Soon got over that though!

In terms of holding their value, I imagine they do as when we were looking for ours, the reason we ended up going for a new one was that the few we managed to find second hand weren't really much cheaper than a new one!
