Are they worth having?

I've got a LR 90, and by the time the tacks in, the water, the buckets, grooming kits, assorted other vital STUFF, the 2 kids and the dog, there isn't any room. I just thought one of these might make things easier for me, but I don't want to waste my money.

Your thoughts please...

They are good.i know how you feel,i also have a LR 90 and found it a right pain.I did put a foldable saddle pole in the back of the landy (on the bulkhead behind the front seats) it did help.If you have a tack pack they have to be taken out everytime you need to unload the horses from the trailer.I now have the new Ifor 511 trailer and because the jockey door is alot bigger/wider i have a door mounted tack pack, which i have found invaluable.

I think it might depend which IW trailer you have.

I have one for an IW 510 but you have to fix it in place with bungy cords and remove it before unloading the horses. I haven't used it very often because of that.

As I understand it the two newer model Ifor trailers have a jockey door fixing for the tack pack. So I think they might be a lot better to use than the ones for the older models.

I bought a secondhand one for my 510 for about £80 in the local paper....was so cumbersome etc (and I felt I would worry leaving stuff in it at shows etc as just plastic) that used it once and sold it.....good news was it made over £130 on Ebay

Personally I prefer my stuff being in the car because its more secure. A friend used to keep a wooden storage trunk in her trailer with bits and bobs in (not tack) and that worked just as well as a tack pack.

We bought ours new with our trailer quite a while ago but stopped using it after 2 years, having replaced the wheels rather a few times! It's also quite tight for space and bridles often come out tangled - but I would recommend it for grooming kit and buckets etc.

We have one, hardly use it as they are heavy and take up quite a bit of space so usually not worth the hassle!

HOWEVER... it came into its own at Olympia where you have to unload away from the stables and the lorries are parked miles away.. we shoved everything in it (quite a tight squeeze with 2 saddles though) and then padlock it and chain it outside the stables.

So i suppose it depends on what sort of events you will be going too.. over nighters... definatly... day events... no! x

Oh, not a smart new IW trailer! Its about 11 years old, one of the first of the modern, coloured panel 505s, it looks just like the last ones off the production line from the outside.

Another Question - does it still fit with the anti bite guard thingy in place? Because I have one of those as my 2 like to entertain themselves taking a nip out of each other whilst travelling even though they adore each other really.

Rema - yes I have a moveable saddle stand with storage below in the back, I could never cope otherwise going to shows!

So the wheels break a lot then on them?

No one else has mentioned it, but mine are broken now - we have given up replacing them after about 6 sets. Hmmm. . . I'm not sure about the bite guard, but if I were you I'd contact Ifor William themselves as mine is quite old and it's likely they will have rectified the problem and they'd be able to advise you about the bite guard.

I found I didn't use mine as I couldn't really comfartably fit two saddles into it and it was a real challenge to get the bridles in too so I only ever used it in my tack room.

I love mine, but I don't keep it at the front of the trailer. Star goes in the right hand stal, and the pack in the left - along with the grooming kit, water canister, mounting block and portapotty!

It doesn't need unloading to get Star out, and is out of sight when the front ramp is down. no probs with the wheels either (touch wood)

I love mine as we often go to shows where the stables are away from the parking area - also it just keeps everything together.
I can also get the horse out when it is in, i padlock mine all the time and when its not in the trailer i use it in my tack room it saves everything getting dusty!
