Which would you have? OR Which have you got?

I am selling my 3.5t box at the end of Feb and getting a trailer. I have an IW510 in mind but have been toying with idea of an Equi-Trek???

What is the difference in weight? I know the 510 is a bout 1000kg but i have heard the Equi-Trek is quite heavy??? do the Equi-Treks have alloy floors??

Thoughts, advice and reccomendations please :)

I love my equitrek space treka it is light enough to tow with my navara, i only tow one horse though. The floor has aluminium planks,I know this as i towed a friends horse with it and he stamped and booted about in the back to the extent i needed to have the plank put back into shape, the rest of the trailer withstood the onslought fine and he was no lightweight, a big cob x warmblood.

I've got the equitrek space L. I initially chose it because my two horses are so big, and this offers about the largest internal area your can get for a 2 horse trailer.

My Space is now 3 years and I use it a lot, usually once a week, often I go out twice a week. It's still in perfect condition.
It's great to use alone, and in my case, it wouldn't be safe for me to use a rear loading trailer without assistance, as one of my horses panics when loading into a traditional rear loader, so I'd always need someone at both ends if I had one of them, but with an equitrek, you can load and unload anything much more easily.

We pull ours with a LWB Shogun, and you don't even feel it's towing, the ride is so smooth, and on motorways we use the cruise control and it's heaven.

I have also eliminated any rattles in mine by putting a bit of foam tape down the inner door and the partition, so it's a quiet ride for the horses too. The tack room is also very handy and very civilised. Everything can hang tidily in its place while travelling, and it’s a lot easier than stuffing it all into the boot of your car as you’d have to do with a traditional trailer.
My two horses now load and unload completely calmly and perfectly, and before I bought this, they weren't particularly good loaders.

There seems to be a lot of equitrek haters on here, and I think Equitrek did have some teething problems when they started producing trailers, so my advice would be not to buy anything older than 5 years old, as I think all the previous issues were sorted out about then. The build quality of mine is very good. I’ve had no issues whatsoever.

I've seen a few NASTY accidents with Equitreks, would not touch on with a barge pole.

Seen a horse smash it's head through the roof of one at a show.

Seen twice horses trying to escape through the jockey door as the travel backwards and door is there, both getting wedged over the breast bar near breaking there legs.

Seen another getting stuck on top of the outside tack locker with is inside by the horses chest, the horse tried to climb on top of it.

Stick with Ifor

We are yet to buy the 4x4 to pull it with and were hoping to get a SWB Shogun or Pajero, these can tow upto 2500kg (2000 plate onwards can tow 2800) which is perfect with an IW510 and both my boys on board plus gear. Im not sure i would be legal with an Equi-Trek as they are about 300kgs heavier and thats with the space Treka 'M' :-/

How do you find it tows? Ive noticed they have a steeper ramp than most traditional trailers and are higher off the ground, do you find the rock or sway?

I really like them as you have the seperate 'tack room' on them which saves lugging all your stuff in the back of the 4x4 ;-)
