Ignore top vets advice and take shoes off?

Lymphangitis...... unfortunately.
Origin unknown.
It's so horrible to see how much pain is caused by this condition.
Early days but as we caught it early, I am hopeful there may be little, if no damage to lymph glands/nodes and swelling should begin to subside tomorrow as this is her first day back out again.
She is partially retired anyway so I don't have the disappointment that comes with her being out of work, thankfully, but the amount of pain she was/is in is quite extraordinary.
Worse part is injecting into the bum............I said 'sorry' about 10 times before plucking up the courage to plunge it into her bum!!
Fingers crossed and it now sounds positive that at least, you know something more about your mare's condition, so you can work with it.

Aw bless her, I know exactly what you mean..... Hopefully moving around today will make her more comfortable.
Topaz is going in to the RVC tomorrow for the new shoes to be fitted and her joint medicated. I still feel a bit frustrated that I can't take her shoes off for the winter, but accept that this is the quickest way to see if rebalancing her feet this way is going to help her and if it does work I can always take her shoes off at a later stage....

Good luck with your mare, I hope she continues to improve.... :D

Just on the point about shoeing getting you answers quicker there is a new post on the Rockley blog showing changes to a remedially shod foot in four weeks. Horse has a whole host of issues and it's not been trimmed since shoes came off. Not to influence OP more just interesting reading and pictures re the hoof healing itself and knowing what it needs to do to fix.
