I did not want to up set any one on here. but when i found the video on u tube about the efforts that ILPH are doing it was good to no that ILPH are doing all they can to help the horse's.
If the video is so damming than why have the soppy music with it?. And the segment that shows the men sorting out the cash?, what is that to prove?. The majority of things relating to horses are a business.
You didn't offend me, it's good in a way to see how good the ILPH are, you wouldn't see the RSPCA out there doing it!! i watched up to where the horse was stuggling to get out and was stuck on the gate, that was enough for me!!
i have sent horses to join the human consumption chain..a guy very close to me has a "holding" field before they are slaughtered..who i have done business with..and go to europe on the hook.
it's not an issue with me....as i'm "conscience" free as to what happens to my "slaughter" animals......
Before I start I just want to say I'm not having a go at you, so don't take it that way, but why do you chose to take your pets to slaughter when they can be sent to retire and finish their natural life? I could never do that with any of my animals, I just couldn't face the idea of someone in Italy eating my horse, or me causing his death before it needed to happen. I am a vegetarian, so I don't agree with any slaughter and I could never send my animals to be killed.

i didn't say in my post that any animal i owned would travel to italy...it would be/and are dispatched locally...IE less than 15 kms from where i live.....i would NEVER cause an animal "its death" (whatever that means)????
not one of my 8, or is it 9, horses have or ever will be pets....they all have a job to do...if they don't strike up to my expectations...ONLY and ONLY due to genetic malfunction...or in lay-mans terms...are "wonkey-donkeys"...or have a really bad degenerative problem....they will go to my local abbatoir.....
NO.....THIS IS NOT CRUEL......................
it is being a responsable owner...these animals will be where i know i have left them..not passed from sale to sale...as harsh at it may seem, i DON'T keep field ornaments......
JM07 surely such a rescue place like the ILPH would take these horses from you and find them homes whether it be retirement or companionship for another horse or pony. its a waste of life, i understand if their bred for it but if their just 'wonky donkys' and no good for 'work' im sure someone else would care and love to have them as field orniments!!
I am totally gobsmacked that anyone in this day and age can agree that any animal that goes for slaughter has to suffer!
To send an animal to the slaughterhouse that is near by and stress free is one thing, but to enjoy hour upon hour and suffer is not acceptable.
To also think that horses are to there to do a job, well I can only think how short sighted people are, is there no pleasure in seeing animals roam free in the countryside, enjoying being just animals, they were not put here to do a "job" for you, have you so little value on their lives.
A sick animal is different, but to all you that say your have done this with no recourse to a healthy animal if it is not doing as you require do not have humanity.
We maybe top of the food chain but compasion goes a long way, animals were not put on this earth to supply you with a living etc etc, they were put here to learn from and to at the very least whatever species they are have dignity in death.
These horses transported hundreds of miles in appaling conditions do not have this, to those that do the right thing at the right time and with little suffering you have full respect, for the rest dont try to shrug this off, you are as guilty as the meat men getting an extra buck from a creature that has never tried to do you wrong.
I concluded you were going to have them slaughtered locally, I'm just saying I don't know many people in America who eat horse meat, so I can only presume it is sent abroad. Italy was an example, coming from the video.
Uhm, when you send an animal to slaughter you do send it to its death, what is hard to understand about that? Slaughter is killing an animal, I'm sure you know that.
Why would you buy an animal with genetic defects, or one that couldn't do it's job? I would personally ensure it would fulfill all of my expectations and ensure it was vetted before I bought it.
Horses are wild animals, they weren't given to us to ride, we just happened to realise we could. Horses shouldn't have to live with one soul purpose, to serve us. They should be allowed a life of their own, they should be able to gallop in huge fields with herds of other horses. My horse is allowed to do this as much as we can let him and I know he prefers that to being trotted in circles or cantered round a course of jumps. He will be allowed to do that until he is too old for bute to make playing in a field enjoyable.
Incidently I did not say you were cruel, perhaps you have a guilty conscience.
