After the fun and buzz of Saturday at Somerford Park poor Pidge has a few war wounds

Because these boots http://www.newequinewear.co.uk/index.htm?ac=ZITUU-W
I'd ordered hadn't arrived yet I used these boots from woof wear http://www.hackettssaddlery.co.uk/cgi-bi.../4/13/index.htm
and he now has a large scabby bit on the bottom of one fetlock and his hair is shorter where he wore his boots

So any tips for stopping this happening again or will he be ok in the NEW boots?

Those boots you had on looked quite soft! I never know what to do about boots, always think better safe than sorry, even thou she never touches and xc fence!!!

Sorry, can't advise about the NEW boots, although I have nothing boot good reports on them.

Did you go in the water at Somerford?

I don't wear boots there as the tracks are so sandy (and dusty now it's so dry) which I find can get stuck up the inside of the boot on sweaty or wet legs. I always worry that the sand, being abrasive, will rub the legs under the boots.

I have the N.E.W boots you linked too. The front pair are fab but the hind pair were hopeless on my horse. They rubbed her every time so I got rid of the hind ones and used simple woof wear brushing boots on the back.

Hi Lisa, yes they were nice and soft, just think that perhaps something got between Pidge and the boot

just feel bad that I've caused this but didn't really want to go with no boots at all and thought these were better than tendon boots on the front and brushing boots on the back.

pretty soft material but solid if that makes sense? He has got white legs and pink skin so could be sensitive and we did go through water a few times during the ride.

yes did the steps in and out of the water, part of the river ride and the stream near the end

poo so the sand could have caused this then, so I am a bad mum then

Course you're not a bad mum!

I just felt there was a potential on such sandy tracks for her to get sore (as she's that way inclined) so I chose not to use them.

She could've done more of an injury without them in fairness, should she have caught herself. Scabs won't take long to heal.

Did you enjoy it? Thought you weren't going until May?

I am because I caused it! It's quite big on his fetlock and obviously is sore as he made it quite clear when I was rubbing some of the scabs off it

Had an absolute ball, bar the fact I left the lorry lights on so had to spend 10 mins finding someone to jump start us

Still going in May but wanted a play beforehand so met up with L154XXX for a play. 1st time XC since I was a teenager and did a few at the riding school and I must admit it was a huge buzz

Wish you'd let me know. I'd have joined you. Three in a group is much more appealing to me than a large group.

Oh sorry

we're not going in a big group on the 8th May as we will split up and go round in small groups - don't think I'd have brakes if we went in a big group

However now I've got the bug big style we will be going again over the summer so will let you know when we plan to go again if you can't make the 8th May.

I'm doing one on Saturday - Cheshire View and going to the Kelsall Hill ride with Sport Endurance on the 29th April.

Mother in law is pulling her face at the idea of me going to too many. I have a child part time at nursery so riding for a day out, as Somerford would be, is a bit awkward in the week.
