I'm a patient person but... this is taking the mickey!

Bought my youngster 3 months ago. When said pony arrived the previous owner said she had forgotten the passport, fair enough, i still owed her £95 i had to way for pay day for.
After all money paid she said she had forgotten about passport & would send it straight away - two weeks later, no passport.
So sent messages & have sent many messages to date & STILL no passport!
I am quite over-protective of my ownership documents such as passport because of previous accident with one & therefore am unsettled i still haven't got it. I've had many reasons given by woman for not sending passport (lost it, found it, will send it, been busy, hurt my legs) etc. & have finally had enough. She's a loveley lady but quite frankly i want my horses passport now! How do i politely say this?! :(

It's illegal to sell a horse without a passport, as is it illegal to travel one without. She did both (I understand she delivered, yes?) She has broken the law. TBH, I wouldn't want to be polite, get the damn passport.

say the YO or vet needs it for treatment, if you don't provide it then they will report her for selling the pony without a passport.

she shouldn't have sold the horse/pony or travelled it without the passport. i take it you saw the passport when you went to view?

She's an awful far drive away from me, but may need to go down & get it this weekend if still no result. Just sent another message now asking if she got my last message. Has replied & said it is being sent tomorrow, here's hoping! She has a heart of gold so i do hope she sends, don't want to be sending more uncomfortable messages.

tell her when you will be over to pick passport up - if she doesnt give it to you say you will contact defra trading standards and police as basically she as broken law - sorry hun have to be tough - you have paid her fair and swuare so she now has to hand over the pasport xx

make sure you keep a copy of all the messages she sends you.

it doesn't matter how nice she is the fact is she hasn't given you the passport, it should have been given to you when the pony was delivered. hope you do actually get it this time though.

You could play it a bit dumb and say that you thought it was illegal to sell without a passport but will ring DEFRA with her details to see if they could arrange a duplicate.
Might get her looking a bit quicker. Leave the message on her answer phone if she doenst answer im sure she will check it. Good Luck

I am in a similar position. I 'acquired' a mule for free about a month ago. Seller had had no offers for him and needed space for her other horses. I am still waiting for the passport. When we collected him she said she had forgotten passport and left it at home. I have contacted her but she has been unwell. Says she'll send it soon. Worried that it'll be me that has the problems with authorities.

However, mule is fabulous and wouldn't send him back!

I think I ended up waiting 2 months for mine from the previous owner. She applied for one the day I had him vetted. I was livid that it took so long.

I'd go to hers and get it but she may tell you that she's already posted it.

Haven't read the other posts, but if you live near enough, why don't you just go over there and ask her for it?

If she can't produce it then you should just apply for a new one, assuming the horse isn't a TB/pure bred etc.

That happened to me do you know what passport it is? The passport remains the property of the agency that supplied it, so they asked for its return and then forwarded it onto me. I was the registered keeper though ( long story )

What is it about (text? messages?) You need to speak to her on the phone or in person.

if she is posting it to you ask her to send it recorded or special delivery so you can track it. tell her you will re emburse her the postage costs on arrival (yes i know you shouldnt have to!!) but she will say she has posted it and hey ho it will not arrive, her excuse being it got lost in the post!!!! is the horse microchipped? should say on the vetting cert, you could trace the details through the microchip number. good luck
