I'm about to walk the five miles to the yard. Anyone else on foot this morning?

Drove home at half eleven last night and it was just silly. and still snowing, so I'm going on foot this morning. Hopefully by evening stables the council will have cleared the roads a bit so I don't have to do another 10 miles a la pied

I don't mind driving in the snow overly but there were enough idiots on the roads last night trying to crash into me or run out in front of me that I'm not going to risk it!

Possibly - it depends on whether or not I can get down the hill in the car. Heading out shortly to check on the road and will make decision from there.

Nope, cos all we had yesterday was rain, rain and more rain and this morning we have thick fog. Go carefully OP. When it was bad last year I had to walk on several occasions but was lucky on two to hitch a lift from a passing tractor!

To one yard yes but its only five minute walk but I have my four year old in tow today :eek hopefully be able to drive up to the other yard!

Yes but only the 10m from the house to the stables lol.

We are frost free this morning - must be 6/7 degrees this morning - no hat, no gloves and just gillet thing worn for mucking out this morning :). Snow has definitely skipped over us :)

My mum is attempting to come & get me to go stables if she can't then it will be waking oh up to take me in his truck. He has got chains that go on car wheels for this type weather so he going to be putting them on my car when he's up. I HATE SNOW

Sis in law is coming to pick up my truck to go do my lot as I'm in school all day with show rehearsals, opening night in Wednesday!

With my truck, she can take all haynets, feeds, do the water etc so it saves hell of a back-breaking job in this snow....

snow is fairly thick with us too and the yard (7 miles away) was worse than home last night, so imagine that will be fun!

I have a disco which copes fantastically in the snow...shame i'm not confident!! lol My husband will be driving us over there, complete with three massive water containers as no doubt it will all be frozen up there.

Been to the stables and back in the snow (7 miles from home each way) in my Peugeot 107, it was brill! Was a bit worried as got rid of my grand vitara for it but it just pootled along through the snow :) happy days

Ah but youll only get confident driving in it :D try short journeys first
carry correct equipment in case you get stuck and take it easy :D

My best friends doing them in her 4x4. Hoping it will of gone by this afternoon so I can do my share later. I've got a skoda fabia and it's not good in snow xx

It's only a mile to my yard, but I stupidly drove it this morning...got there fine, then car got stuck at the yard!

I'm a stubborn pig amd wouldn't give up, managed to get it out eventually and am home safe.

This evening I'll be walking the mile!

Go carefully everyone.
MET office are advising to pack food, warm clothes and a fully charged phone in case you get stuck.
I'm staying in today no chance of getting car off drive - we're higher up where we are so we always get it worse, no doubt the farm will be better off!!!!

Looks like I'll be walking a certain distance. I'm 20 but don't drive, so my mum takes me when I'm home, but she doesn't seem to realise that just because there's snow I can't leave my filly to fend for herself!

I had a lovely phonecall from the farmers wife this morning telling me not to do anything daft like try and get to the horses she'll give them some hay and break their water. Am very glad asihave a 40odd mile round trip and im not sure i can get out of my road!!

I love my landy - feeling very smug cruising past abandoned cars ;-)

I love the snow - just a shame it didn't arrive on a work day as I could have done with a day off!

No luckily dee is on full livery and i rode her yesterday, i cannot go out in this weather anyway with my leg so i am stuck indoors (not even allowed a snowball fight! humph)

If you do walk, please wear hi-vis and take a hot drink in a flask, a fully charged phone, a nice thick coat and a blanket. Im doing NVQ work today instead of the horse but tbh, i live on a main road and there have been 9 crashes outside my house since it started snowing....its not worth the risk when i know she is being well looked after.

Well, I survived but I'm not going back. Someone else is haying them this evening and they'll just have to cope. It's more hassle than it's worth!

Glad you're all home safe! I have to do my house work instead of play ponies which is rubbish! :(

No. M is on full livery so I go down to ride and/or groom, make myself feel useful :p so not worth the risk as there is a bit of a steep hill to get to the yard.

I delegated: normally teenage daughter wants to stay in bed a while when it's cold, and I end up doing them as it's easier than shouting at her to get up as I'm up and about anyway (and their feed is sitting in the utility, hay nets ready in the barn, so not exactly onerous), but today she was up dressed and out in the snow so she did the ponies!

Think yourself lucky only have to walk because of the snow. I have often had to walk to yards and back, see to several horses in all weathers and sometimes more than 5 miles each way for the past 6 years.

Yep, did the 2 1/2 to 3 mile walk to yard this morning. Roads were a bit iffy as new boots have no grip but it was nice crunching through fresh snow along a bridle path. Mucked out, fed pony and walked home feeling slightly saintly!

Bugger that!! There's no way I'd walk that far in the snow when I have a car at my disposal - you could equally get run over by a said idiot anyway!! I would go as far as I could in the car TBH last year in the snow and ice I had no problems getting down ungritted side lanes in a ford transit - typically my 4x4 was in for a minor repair!!
Just ease off the gas and think ahead - you'll be fine!!
