Hi all! I wound up in hospital last Saturday evening. My sister picked me up this morning, I went by my place and packed some clean clothes and toiletries, and I'm spending several days in her nice guest room. My favorite niece, her daughter, is here to help me and they're spoiling me rotten. Long story short, I nearly died but didn't and am a total emotional mess due to weakness and thankfulness. Some day when you're bored look up hyponatremia if you want the gorey story.

PaS, how is the leg? If I missed anything major I apologize and I hope no one lost a loved one.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to one and all!

Goodness, That sounds scary! I have just looked up the condition, do you know why you developed it? I am so glad you survived the horrible experience and that your family are looking after you. I had wondered where you where but at Christmas time people do come and go.

I am still on the slow road to recovery, thanks for asking. I am taking the 5th course of antibiotics and have another waiting at he Chemist's shop, in case I need it around New Year. It's all on the 'dangerous' thread, so I won't repeat it here and derail your thread but I do feel much better for having spoken to the Outpatients nurse and a female GP at my surgery, whom I have never met in the flesh.

Look after yourself and Merry Christmas!

ETA I see that Pearlsasinger have replied herself while I was busy typing my reply, and notice she mentions derailing the thread. I apologise if I misunderstood something, I thought GSD Woman was asking about what had happened with Pearlsasinger, and what other things she might have missed. So I wrote a reply mentioning some of the things that had happened, but to not derail the thread I've deleted what I wrote.

I hope that it is one of the fixable potential problems which caused your hyponatremia, and that you're soon back to your usual self, GSD Woman.

FL, thanks for the report. I wouldn't have the strength to look and find it.

The long story on how I developed the problem, and this is the condensed version of that, is that several weeks ago I started having a sharp pain in my stomach when drinking diet Coke. I drank A LOT of diet sodas. I switched to water and replaced almost all of my sodas with water. I drank so much water without replacing electrolytes that I developed the problem.

On Friday around 4 am I called 911. That is the emergency number in the US. And, remember we don't have NHS. They took me to the emergency room and the physician basically blew it off. Flu test = negative, COVID test didn't get the results back in time, urinalysis = infection. The ba$tard sent me home with something to stop the vomiting and another script my sister had to go get filled. Didn't even bother to send them to the pharmacy himself.

Around 5 pm Saturday my sister called to see if I wanted to go back to the ER. This time I got a proper doctor, they did blood work and obtained another urine sample. The pee looked like amber sludge. When the dr came back to my room he brought the nephrologist on call with him.

I spent ~18 hours in he ER on fluids before a bed in the ICU opened. I spent ~18hrs there until I was able to stand and move enough and had to get a second COVID test, the first one was lost, before I could be moved to the step down ward. Now I'm at my baby sister's house. Aren't y'all glad I spared you the projectile vomiting bit?

Oh, and friend of my sister's named Stan, told my sister about his mother and a UTI that she had one year. They were on their way to the beach and by the time they got there Stan's mother could barely walk. Apparently when we get older UTIs can become rather dangerous. So, Stanley saved my life.
Would it be allowed to share a link to Stan's store?
