Well I have just sat down at the kitchen table with a big box of pennies and a glass of bubbly
I am pleased to report that I and the heffalump are all in one piece, as are all of the wings/poles/fillers at Laughton!
Left about 5.30, didn't even take the saddle with me as knew it would tempt me to put it on which would lead to me not taking it off
Also took the Myler as P hasn't jumped a course since LD and had a funny feeling it all might be a bit exciting
Took him for a school there yesterday, as figured I really should practice and that 5 days hacking before hand really wasn't enough practise
Yesterday was just an oxer, upright and double, and he was popping those sweetly enough at about 1m [sans saddle
]
Today I spent the day making fairycakes, cleaning tack, and generally doing things to prevent me thinking that actually that 200quid was starting to look rather acheivable and come 6.30 I could quite easily be jumping 1.10m
Warmed up cute as a button in the waterford, very keen, saw some v long shots to a couple of meaty oxers [trust me, 1.15m without a saddle is meaty
] Decided that I needed a little more anchorage than the waterford as didn't have anything to "sit into" to take a pull if needed be. Stuck him in the waterford, and bugger me it jumped
Had a few people come up to me and tell me that they'd never do this and I was mad, and someone even said they didn't realise I didn't have a saddle on
I thought my ar*e isn't that big is it?!
Went into the ring at the end of the clear round, fences about 65cm at this point. Commentator announced the plans and saw a few people raise eyebrows because, well, 65cm is small when you're on an even bigger heffalump....Walked him round to show him the indoor, popped a little of the course as they put it up just to keep him ticking over, then everyone went away and watched and they beeped me. And I thought sh*t what am I doing?
was about ready to puke in all honesty.
My horse is a star
I swear he knew the course and was on autopilot and just
He was AMAZING. Such a feel to be so close and to feel everything move and the power and...wow. Flew number one [90cm], infact was v keen over 1, then round on a tight right hand dogleg to vertical at 2 [95cm]. Right handed back across the diagonal to 1m vertical at 3, then left handed to planks oxer at 4 [1.05m] and playing card vertical on a related 4 [1.05m] round to the oxer off the wall and he just ran, so into the bottom of that [1.10m] and took it out quite specatcularly. Got my reins back and did a circle to chill him out again, then over 1.10m upright at 7 [v gappy as pole just raised above 2" fillers
], then right handed to the double at 8 - upright in, oxer out, 1m then 1.05m. So just the one down, que
from me, my mums heart resuscitated, and applause rom the "audience"....
