If the rules allowed her to enter, she was able to enter and presumeably there was some form of prize money/prize for the winner? Which as a pro or amatuer can offset costs a bit! Maybe you should look for restricted classes? Then it won't bother you so much.
I fully support the idea if you are eligible for a class, unless you PERSONALLY feel you're morally not in the spirit by entering it, then you have the right to enter and compete. It's not up to others to decide whether someone is in the 'spirit' of things, I'd be interested to hear from the rider why she was taking the horses in those classes, but as I say, if the class is not restricted then it's open to all
