I got the job I applied for as an event groom for Sam Lyle! Woo Hoo!!!

They have got a working pupil to cover January and my flights booked for the 26th, my partner James is staying here to sell the house etc.

Bailey my vetran is staying put and ownership is being transfered to my lovely sharer who will continue pottering around with him.

Ryu is going to be advertised next week my trainer is taking him on sales livery as of next Monday.

I'm so so excited but have such allot to do, plus my boss will freak on Monday when I tell her, but in a good way I think, its all fate I guess.

I have a few queries about some stuff some of you may be able to help with,

How much should I ask for a 2 year old Bateson Ascot trailer in excellent condition?

I planned to do a price list of Ryus tack and rugs so if a buyer wanted anything they could buy it on top - is this a good idea? Would it appeal to potential buyers?

Do horses sell in January???

Also what do you think I should wear on the yard? I'd feel odd in shorts bare legs and horses er no, jeans might be too hot? Any recomendations for very flattering summer weight jods? Plus boots and chaps? I wear wellies here unless I'm riding but I don't think in 30 degrees theres much mud?

James thinks I'm a premaddona for worrying about what I'll be wearing but its important not to look daft and be comfy

No idea abt selling things I'm afriad but congrats on the new job - hope it all goes well

Look at other adverts to get ideas for prices - as for what to wear... ask ur new boss. If ur worried abt asking him then be cunning abt it and ask if there's a yard uniform or something...

Why not see if there are any online tackshops in the area and check out what they offer- that will give you an idea of how to fit in- or email your employer-to-be and ask or checkout a riding holiday website as that will recommend clothing for the area?
In Africa we wore mountain horse/ ariat laceup paddock boots with chaps, cotton jodhs or jeans and Troxel Hats were comfy and not sweaty (and didnt look too weird!)

Ohhh well done on the job, sounds AMAZING....

I'd go with muckers or the like for just on the yard, not to heavy for your lovely 30 degrees!! Agree with Z maybe ask what the others wear aswell!

As for selling stuff I would maybe just chuck it all in with the selling price to be fair, unless you have somewhere to store it and are likely to want it in the future!

Dunno about trailers soz.........

Good luck with it all!!!

Congrats!! Very exciting.

Johds wise get some light cotten ones, dublin do a good range. I would wear paddock/johd style boots and just shove chaps on when riding - you'll boil in wellies!

lots of light cheap t-shirts on top.

Good Luck!!

Oh, you lucky thing! Very jealous.

Clothes-wise, I've seen grooms working in cut off jeans, sturdy boots and bikini tops in hot countries, but maybe don't turn up like that on the first day!

If I were you, I would either ask you boss in advance, or buy one pair of lightweight jods (I have some green check cotton Dublin ones with a sticky bum bit which I wear in the summer) for the first day, then see what everyone else is wearing. And definitely leather paddock boots with seperate chaps for riding. Ariat are the best IMO, but they are pricey.

I think it would be fine to list and price you tack, good idea. You might end up having to throw it in as part of the bargain though.

And finally, Jan is not the best time to sell, but there are still plenty of people looking for horses for the coming season.

Best of luck!

im emigrating on 1st feb!!! to australia! and i know how you feel. tonnes to do. resigned yesterday. sorting my gorgeous horse out. finding a sharer for my house. packing, planning etc, are you as excited as i am???

When i was in South america riding Polo ponies... the jeans was the top of the list as yard wear... in 45 degrees! I wore those cotton types rather than thick denim types... it's comfy. There's also always cotton jods. Jod boots and chaps.
Don't forget sun cream! UV is very very high.

Good luck.
