My 4 year old Welsh D filly, Menna, left today to go to her new home.
I bought her last September, lightly backed her and turned her away over winter. Then, I brought her back in to continue with her backing in May.
I had to sell her for financial and health reasons, and managed to find a fantastic new home for her through replying to a wanted ad. I sold her on 4th August, but her new owner left her with me as she had had an accident with one of her youngsters. New owner had a nasty injury which left her with a badly torn thigh muscle. She won't be right for another 9 months, so has found a loan home for Menna until she is fit enough to ride again herself.
New owner came and picked me up today, and we went over to the yard together to bring Menna in and get her ready for her loaner to pick up.
They are all lovely people, and I couldn't have found a nicer home for Menna if it had fallen from the sky. We are all keeping in touch through facebook.
Everything went very well. Menna, having only ever travelled twice before in her life, hesitated at the bottom of the ramp, had a look, then followed me in to the box. I tied her up, gave her a carrot and a scratch on her neck. Before I walked away, I told her, "I'll miss you baby, be good for your new family." I helped to put the ramp up......then burst uncontrollably into tears.
.
Hugs followed all round between myself, Menna's new owner and her loaners, then I popped in through the rear door to say goodbye.
As the box pulled away, Menna's new owner and I stood hugging each other and crying. Me, because Menna was leaving for good, and her new owner because Menna is off to a loan home for the next year while her new owner's leg heals.
There is a lot more to this story than I have posted, but this was all "meant to be", with both myself and Menna's new owner each having our own emotional rollercoasters surrounding this story.
Malog Telynores Menna - You were with me for only a year, but a very special part of my life. I wish you a long, happy and successful future with your new Mum and in your temporary loan home. I'll see you again soon baby, both when I visit and out at shows.
Love You Always. XXX
