Classic case of 'everyone has an opinion that's different to everyone elses and if you don't do it this way, you're going to be shot' on the yard at the moment...
So, I'm getting ver confused about clipping... Pony is getting quite sweaty when ridden and occasionally under his m/w rug when he's turned out. Has plenty of energy without being stupid (went off his head earlier in the year when he was fully clipped
) but is most definetly coming up rather on the soggy side whenever I do any work with him.
I've had just about every clip suggested to me that was ever invented, from full clipping to leaving him alone completely along with various stories saying that he'll get laminitis if he is clipped, laminitis if he isn't clipped, he'll grow his summer coat properly if he's clipped now, he'll have clip lines until August if he's clipped again now and wont grow a summer coat at all... the list goes on...
So, at the moment:
- he's getting very sweaty when he's ridden(neck/shoulders/hind legs)
- he was fully clipped back in october but went off his head a few days later...
- the weather is very mild (has been all winter so far) and I was riding in a t shirt at 5 o clock this evening...
- he's got plenty of energy at the moment
- it wouldn't kill him to lose some weight...
So, can anyone let me know what the pros/cons are of clipping at the moment are please! I'm getting really confused...
- If he's clipped now, will his summer coat grow through normally or will he have lines all year?
- will he lose weight if he's clipped/not clipped or is that just a myth... (he's out at night and i'd like him to stay that way)
- is it too late to clip
- if not, would one clip be better than another as I'd like him to stay out...
- providing he's cooled off, does it matter if he's not clipped?
Thanks very much and sorry for such a long post,
