I know but I can't help it. So nice to be able to post self indulgent posts on a regular basis now!

Did some schooling on the boy last night then decided to pop over a cross pole or two. He's been having major confidence issues and I was having problems getting him over a ft high jump before.

So, we built up and by the end of the session he was flying over 2'9" easily

Will only do it in trot at the moment but I guess that's all part of being green.

He did plough through it one time then scared himself and wouldn't go over so I brought it back down and tried again until he went back over.

Very chuffed.

You're doing the right thing, start low & gentle & bring on slowly. If there's a glitch you can always drop back & slowly start again......lessons slowly learned stay learned & the horse feels comfortable & happy...well done

Yay well done

Agree with Toby completely, never over face whilst a horse is gaining confidence. After all, the MAIN thing one should be teaching a horse is approach and technique, ie hitting the fences perfectly everytime - most horses can easily pop 1m, it is the getting to each fence well that is the tricky bit

Completely - he's quite a woss so he popped 2ft 9 but second time ploughed through it so I brought it right back down again - he did jump it again but knocked it but I left it there.

So very proud of him - I think he's doing better because he trusts me now. Was quite nice to have to actually 'ride' a horse to jump rather than 'point and go' which all my last horses where.

Just can't believe that every week we seem to be doing something together - tres exciting!
