ARRGGHHHHHH !!!!

*breathes and cough cough*

Came back from work last night about 7.30, Went straight to the yard, Arrived at the yard to find the YO walking her mare up and down the lane, She had been riding so was cooling off .... Missy in the meantime was trotting up and down the fence line soaking with sweat . When I got out to settle her down, YO walked over to me and said that she(missy) seemed fine when she took her mare out of the field (only YO's mare and mine in the field) but when she was riding around the arena Missy was "acting silly and galloping about .
crazy.gif
....Bearing in mind folks, She is only recovering from an injury and was on the mend
crazy.gif
.... Yo proceeded to tell me that she had heard a bang whilst she was riding and wondered what it was .
smirk.gif
crazy.gif
.....

Now if this was me I would have went up to the field to check ...Nope YO carried on riding, even though she could see Missy going buck mad around the field and sweating herself up .

YO obviously finished riding
crazy.gif
and untacked and started to walk the mare up and down the lane, She had then seen the board from the middle railing of the fence was down, Carried on walking up and down with her mare ...Whilst missy was still trotting up and down the fence line .

At this point I arrived and YO tells me that madam must have kicked out at the fence whilst she was riding ..... WELL IF SHE HAD OF KICKED OUT AT THE FENCE WHY IN GODS NAME DIDN'T YOU BRING HER IN AND WHY IN GODS NAME DIDN'T YOU BRING HER IN WHEN YOU SEEN HER GALLOPING AROUND SWEATING HERSELF UP ????

I just don't understand the mentality
crazy.gif

If I was to ride and I seen the other said horse galloping about .... I would have brough said horse in and put them both out together again when I was finished
crazy.gif

Anyhoos ....

To cut a long story short, Madam has had a visit by the vet as her front leg was swollen from the knee down ..... I personally think she ran at the fence and didn't get stopped in time and WALLOP .... right into the middle plank .
frown.gif
.

As I said in the early part of my post, Shes only recovering from a haematoma in her hind leg and I really am not needing another injured horse
frown.gif
.
Vet has had a feel of the leg and with cold hosing and bute , Hoping she should be fine .....
crazy.gif

Im tired and dosed with the flu, Im still barking like a bloody seal .... and Im ready just to have a mental break down
frown.gif
frown.gif
Amonst other things which I won't go into .... long story
crazy.gif

I would really like to take a deep breath in but ..... it just starts a fit of coughing

Some lindt chocolate left over if you make head nor tail of my post x

hmmm you'd think a yard owner of all people would have more common sense given the history of your mare (past injury) and having heard a bang, which no doubt was when the trauma happened, her galloping up and down afterwards will off certainly added to the original injury, I'd also be very annoyed to say the least.

I was riding when a horse from the next yard got out into a different field so i put mine away and caught the horse called the owner and put him back in his own field.

I can’t believe that behavior from the YO what kind of example is she setting.

I do sympathise. But equally, if the arrangement does not work and Missy get's stressed when left on her own you're going to either find her a companion, move yards or bring her in yourself.

I too in your shoes would be terribly upset - but she's your responsibility not the owner of the other horse who she shares the field with.

All our liveries are DIY but we have a policy that no horse is to be left alone in the field if the particular horse stresses being out alone generally, however some yard owners feel that it is not their responsibility to bring your horse in from the field when you are a DIY livery, I know this is how the YO at a yard we liveried at years ago before we got our own placed worked. There were many horses with barbed wire scars from being left alone because their owners couldnt get home from work soon enough, you could maybe offer to pay her to bring your mare in with hers??

Had it just been another livery, I would agree SS but surely the YO does have a responsibility to the horse and in which case should have taken steps to stop her stressing!

That said would also echo, in future if this is the way your YO treats the horses in her care I would have to either get a companion for Missy myself or move. Next time it could be a lot worse.

x

hello hunni. im not well either, got a banging headache, runny nose and keep coughing.

as i was reading your post i was just sat there going "bloody hell why didnt the YO bring the horse in"

i cant believe the YO didnt bring your horse in, i would of gone mad. ive been on some yards in the past where people say if theres a horse out on its own then someone should bring it in but some people just dont do this and it really frustrates me. i hope you and your horse get better soon hun xxxx

With all due respect SS .....

I and the YO came to an agreement that if one horse is going to be left out on its own then they would come in .

YO .... said that she "seemed" ok straight after she brough her mare out .

This other horse is the YO's horse ! .

Perhaps I should leave her mare out when shes galloping up and down and sweating herself up
smirk.gif

My mare is 3 years old therefor she needs company .

Ah, well if you had an agreement - then that's entirely different.

I do sympathise, I really do. I think that those of us who keep our horses at livery though, are somewhat at the whim of the gods - with an awful lot of things out of our control. Your situation is just one example......
frown.gif

I would have thought that a YO would have the sense to bring in your youngster when she brought her own in as we all know that most horses would rather NOT be alone!

Seems to be the more I do the less thanks you get .

I am a good livery, I brush up after me and others for that matter, Fill water buckets, Take care of alot of things which some other liveries may not do .

I help clear the dung heap whilst no other liveries do .
I bring in YO's horse surprisingly enough when no other livery will bring her in . I put YO's horse out whilst she is on night shift and in bed in the morning whilst no other livery will do .

So perhaps she could do just this one thing for me ..... yeah ? .

The sand arena hasn't been rolled in ages, the fences in the far field need sorted , better lights are needed in the stables .

I am feeling a meeting coming on with the YO .

Poor you ....... If I could get rid of this cough
frown.gif
.

Yes I would agree .... Thing is there is only 4 horses at the yard, Mines is the youngest at 3 years of age, then a 4 year old and then a 5 year old with YO's mare being the nanny to them all, Shes 12 .

Everyone on the yard knows not to leave a horse out on their own, its always worked this way and everyone is happy with this arrangement . Especially the yard owner, I really don't know what she was thinking
crazy.gif

Perhaps she would have thought a little harder if it had of been her own mare who got injured
crazy.gif

My friend had exactly the same thing with her YO many years ago at a previous livery yard, and she said the YO had heard a bang and saw her horse kick the fence but did not think to look at her legs when she brought her in.

Also YO heard a strange noise from field and then happened to notice horse stood very quietly. Turned out she'd got electric fence tape wrapped round her back legs which she discovered when I got her in.

Good job the mare was sensible.

Sounds like you're having a really hard time!

It's totally unfair for her to have left your horse out, especially if she's behaving like that. Anyone on my yard would be at the field in a flash to bring her in, especially if they knew she was injured already.

I'd definitely look into getting a companion horse, you shouldn't have to but at least then you could be happy knowing she's got company and hopefully won't stress anymore, or I'd look into moving yards.

Hope you feel better and get things sorted soon

Unfortunately unable to get a companion ..... Hubbie would shoot me if I brought home another one and on top of having to pay livery for a field ornament

crazy.gif

The other horse I am looking after at the minute ( the four year old ) who is also injured but got the all clear today .... Is hopefully able to go out in a couple of days and the girl that owns her is of the same thinking as me . So hopefully should be back to normal .

BT says its good to talk ..... I say its good to RANT !

smile.gif

It sounds to me like your yard owner is totally irresponsible and I would most certainly be moving my horse without and further delay or hesitation. If you yard owner is too lazy to bring in your horse when this has been agreed she clearly is not sufficiently responsible to be running a yard.

Find yourself a yard which is managed and run properly.

PeterNatt ....... I do agree with you

I have been there 10 years, it is a nice yard and all liveries get on with each other .... I think I will just avoid putting her out on her own with YO's mare .... or I need to make sure there is another horse in with her incase yard owner decides to take her mare out . We don't have many yards about our area .

I have in the meantime text YO and asked her if I could have a chat, She is a nice lady and NORMALLY these sorts of things don't happen around the yard . I honestly don't know what she was thinking .... I am hoping she is feeling regret with how she handled the situation and now perhaps she will think the next time .

I am just feeling very drained and exhausted at the minute .

to me its just common sense, when one of the horses was on box rest and it was just Ab and the other mare in the field i instantly brought them both in if i was going riding it was just automatic i dont want any horses getting injured on my account.

same in the winter (before pop came back) if the guy at the yard brought his in and abby was gonna be left alone he would bring her in so she would get herself in a mess. and in bad weather if his 2 we're upset i would get them in a feed them for him, just automatically

maybe thats just me tho lol!!!

If you had an agreement with the YO, then yes, she should have brought your horse in.

However, at my old yard, there were a couple of people who would throw a monumental tantrum if you so much as looked at their horses, let alone had the temerity to bring the wretched creatures in when they were doing cartwheels round their fields and trying to decapitate themselves on barbed wire fences in the process.

I once brought a girls horse in who was going mental, was running with sweat and had a nasty gash on the flank from crashing through barbed wire. She called me an "interfering ******" for bringing the horse in. The horse required 14 stitches to the wound.... I left the yard shortly after this, and not a moment too soon, as the yard owner had a mental breakdown and actually hit one of her liveries.
