Hi there! I know there have been other threads about this, but I am going to Goresbridge to hopefully have a nice time and possibly pick up a project horse along the way next month! I was just wondering if any wise people have any good advice, and also, I understand that transporters are easy to find onsite?! But do they take card as the sales do, or do you need to pay them in cash?
Many thanks in advance! :)

Transport is indeed easily arranged and about £250 to England.
Mark your catalogue, get there early, and watch watch watch! I'd suggest bringing an experienced person with you, it can be quite daunting! I might be myself on the Tuesday I think (depends how easily I can wrangle the day off!), a horse I bred and sold as a foal is selling on Tuesday so wanted to pop down and see how he does.
God luck, enjoy!

Transport is very easy to arrange and I paid for mine with cash in England. So you have plenty of time to get to a cash machine if you find a horse. When I went to pay for my horse the card machine in the office failed which meant a few frantic calls to the bank instead.

My biggest tip would be to thoroughly look through the vet certificates for anything you plan on buying as alot when I went had real issues like heart mumurs and sarcoids listed on the vet certificates.
Other than that, go with an open eye! I can highly recommend Keating horse transport but wouldn't touch McMahon with a barge pole.

Good luck

Thanks for all advice :) all being noted down, keep it coming!! Im going for a few days so hopefully can use 1st day to see how things work, etc. I have bought from sales in this country, so can't imagine it can be hugely different?! Noted transporter to avoid! Thanks!

I recently went to Goresbridge myself to the sport horse sales, one thing that I relised quickly was the fact that the height given in the catalog are not very correct for instance a horse that was said to be 15.2hh turned out to be well over 16.2hh so don't cross horses off just because of height. as others have said get there early so you can watch all the horses arrive and see which travel well and the ones that don't, also make sure you watch any potential horse being ridden and if possible ride yourself because I got on one that had a rearing fit even though the owner said she was 'calm and quite' so keep an eye out. One last thing choose a transporter preferably that is advertised in the catalog because there usually the best! Sorry for this being so long :) but have fun as it is a great experience, I came back with a 5yr old ISH gelding who is a dream and is now going BE eventing this September for the first time :D GOOD LUCK!!

I used McMahon, my horse looked really really good when she got of the lorry. The driver was lovely too.

Have used McMahons for years and been more than satisfied. Excellent service and experienced drivers! Hope you have a good trip, I bought 2 absolute stars last time. Good luck but keep your eyes open at all times.
