no chance of the new people allowing you to stay ??

good luck in your hunt - something will turn up - it always does (although maybe not in time )

Thanks! No, new people are knocking the whole of the stone stables down, and getting rid of the school to turn it into a garden!!!

Yes, some people have more money than sense. AND, get this the whole 6 acre paddock will also be the back garden!

Don't you just hate that - what a waste

Yes, its unreal. sadly the yard could not be suitably split from the house. otherwise i think dad would have bought the yard. Its a lovely old indoor yard, 10 boxes, all stone, loads of features etc. so sad.

Aw Piaffe I am so sorry to hear that

and I hope you get sorted x
I agree about some people, no doubt toffs. Typical middle class urban twits ( no offence intended but they are the sort who move to the country and expect the town they lived in to follow them) move to the country. Oh let's have a nice big garden and maybe a swimming pool so we can have a dip before hubby gets up to comute to work while wifey stays at home and decides to pop into the local village and get people's backs up. Am I way off the mark Piaffe? or have I sorta hit the nail on the head.
Some people will never ever appreciate what they have. If they wanted to knock down the stables why the hell buy it in the first place? Why not buy some other country residence that does not have stables or just buy a show home on a new build estate?
Chances are these kind of people are the same who would moan about tractors on the road, mud and shite on the roads and tracks, the smell of manure, horses on the road and even shooting on estates.
Sorry Piaffe you have me ranting now and I'm not in your shoes but it just annoys me when people who have money just set out to destroy a residence and its surroundings like that.
Why don't they just fck off and go and build themselves a property in the remote highlands then they can have a garden as big as they like!
Didn't mean to get so angry like that and swear but it makes my blood boil how some people have no consideration for others. This is a prime example of how I detest people who have more money than sense. As the real people who should have bought this property should have wanted it for equestrian use.
I would never buy a property like that to destroy its character. I would choose one which suited my needs in the first place rather than demolish perfectly good buildings -which are probably authentic too- just to make the property suit my lifestyle.
Good luck though Piaffe and I hope you find some accommodation soon for your horses

poor you, I hope you manage to find something. I hate change at the best of times and when you are happy and settled somewhere and are forced to move due to external factors it is really hard.

Where abouts are you looking? You're Yeovil way aren't you? My friend's mum keeps horses over that way, so if you get really stuck I could talk to her. Mine is in Wellington which might be a bit far.

Thanks so much. I have a lead or two that I plan to follow up but, like you say, its just routine. I love it there and its never gonna be the same.

That's really pants - and what a waste of stables (now if only there was I way to transport them conveniently out of their way and on to my tiny patch of grass over here..)

Seriously though good luck with the new yard search - know it can be a pain in the bum

Can they get away with giving you less than one month's notice? That is not long enough to realistically find somewhere else. Have you got any ideas as to where you can keep them? Why would someone pay the extra premium that an equestrian property (especially one with a school) attracts, then knock it all down? Madness.

I totally and utterly agree Sooty it is sheer madness!
To be honest I thought the same that less than a month's notice was too short.
Piaffe did you have an agreement at all with the owner? Was it just verbal or written?
If it is verbal then I'm afraid there is probably nothing you can do about it but if written and there is something in your contract then you may have an issue.
Also I don't know if you know of this website already but here is one where you can post a wanted ad for free.
Just type in what you want, area etc and add a contact number or email addy for people to contact you.
Could be worth a try at this stage to see if anyone gets in touch and offers you somewhere. It may be worth going and having a look if they do.

What a horrifically sweeping statement! Not EVERY country person is horsey! Why should only horsey people buy property that has stables???!!! And why label them townies when you do not know them? Gosh, if we buy the house we want to buy I will be erecting rugby goals in one of the paddocks and handing it over to my boys to do what they want with - should I be strung up for that? Oh, and I am a stay at home wifey.
