Some of you may remember me as the girl who is forever having battles with her mother ;) Well after multiple arguments, my mum and I have put our differences aside and settled on getting our very own pony! We started searching and soon enough came across a lovely pony which is quite close to us and i'm going to view her tomorrow :D

Excited is an understatement! Everything is sorted here and now i'm praying everything goes well tomorrow :D:D I couldn't keep it to myself anymore so there we go ;)

HHO luck needed please :p

How exciting! Good luck and if you are in any doubt whether the pony is the one for you then its not!

Great advice! I'm going to go and see her and see how we get on, but definitely going on gut instinct (as it hasn't failed me before) any doubts and it's a no no!
Thank you so much! :D

Exciting! Details needed- size, type, colour, etc.
Is it a loan or are you looking to buy?
Glad to hear you and your mum are getting on now. Hope it all goes well, let us know how you get on. :)

So excited for you lovely! Can't wait to hear all about it tomorrow.

I didn't get home til late tonight but will do a post about Harry in the morning :D x

( so happy to finally say that ) :D It's lovely we get on now and she wants to be involved with pony to! So happy :D X

Hello all!
I went to see her and am now in a fantastic mood! I met her and although she's very shy (pretty unhandled) I managed to get her to come to me and stroke her face within 30 minutes (which her owner was impressed with) so spent a while with her and fed her polo mints (which she loveeed) and I fell inlove with her and well..

I put down a deposit :D :D She's mine!!! Owner said 'congratulations - you now own a pony' but she's holding her for me so I get her in 2 weeks after I go on holiday!! I cannot believe it!! :D :D THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR THE LUCK!! xx

Are you having a vetting done? I do not know your level of riding but is she is unhandled is she broken? It is always exciting buying a new horse, but you do need to think practically. :)

We're not but only because a few friends have said they didn't with theirs and said it wasn't worth the price! May sound silly but she looked okay from my point of view, she had a good body condition, lovely shiny coat and clearly well looked after. (I know that's not really a vet's inspection or anything even near i'm sorry) I saw her passport and papers, saw when she was wormed and had her jabs everything was there that I was told to ask for! I'm not looking to ride at all, she's literally just a companion for me and someone to love and potentially show - She's okay to put headcollar on and off just not used to being lead around or groomed so just something I can get a bond with and love :)

Personally i would always have a pre purchase examination done as you cannot see with your eyes say if the horse has an underlying medical condition such as a heart defect. I would check with your insurance company also as if anything does come to light after the purchase it may not be covered if it could be seen as a pre-existing condition.

Is the horse broken? I have never seen a skewbald Dartmoor either :)

She's a dartmoor hill pony - so she's not a purebred dartmoor just one of the cross breed ponies that live up on Dartmoor :) hence the different colouring!
I think that's a good idea! Vetting will be done, i'm sorry i'm just on cloud nine at the moment. :o

Is she broken? Do you have any experience with young horses? I would have thought it better to have a slightly older horse you could have fun on personally. :)

Each to their own:)
She's not broken, she's looking for one to one bonding and someone to spend time with her and love her :) which I will do -Older horse would have been a good start but I really like her and everything looked good! Hopefully we'll have a lifetime together :)

I didn't get my horse vetted when I bought him and my insurance company don't seem to mind. There is a threshold (I think over £5k) where you have to have a vetting but if under this I have never had a problem. She looks lovely, congratulations :)

Are you hoping to ride her? So you will need her broken in? I am sorry, i am not trying to put a damper on your spirits. But it can cost a lot to break in a horse, and you need experience to do it yourself and bring said horse on.
Don't apologize! Everything you're saying is sensible and well thought through and totally true!
It can indeed, I don't have any plans to break her to ride at the moment so not thinking about it, hopefully we'll be able to teach each other :) As silly as that sounds!

Aw thank you so much!
Yes, I think it's £5K, although could be completely wrong? :) xx

As long as you are happy with the pony and not having a riding horse for now (you could always drive her instead if she doesn't get big enough to ride?) that's all that matters. :)

I bought my first mare at Stow Horse Fair from some Travellers when i was younger, so obv no vetting involved there! She was dirt cheap and we were of the opinion that if we suddenly found something wrong that would cost a fortune to fix, she would either be kept with us as a companion or be PTS. Not everyone vets, esp if the pony is cheap or buying blind at sales. Luckily all worked out well for us, she was a dream to ride, 100% sound and took me and my sister right through to our mid teens. :)

Once you get her home you could always call your local vet to come give her the once over if you wanted.

Do you have any pics for us? Where are you going to keep her? What is her name? Lots of exciting times coming up for you in the near future then! YEY!! :)

Ah sorry, we are friends on Facebook so I have seen a sneak peek!!

I'm almost certain it is £5k I have had one over that and had to have a vetting for insurance and one under and not had to. I just took my physio (and friend) as an objective pair of eyes incase I got carried away but think she loved him as much as I did :)

Aw! Your pony sounds lovely! Yes, my stepdad is pally with the local horse vet so may get a discount on a from home vetting :p or so we can hope!! :D

Pictures are uploading, in the next village along - everything's sorted and settled, she's called 'Missy' and yes!! :D X

Ah! Well, there we go! 5K it is :)! xxx

Very excited for you. I am toying with the idea of getting a pony, for no real reason other than I want one!! Just need to try and get round the oh who may kill me if I get another. Very much like the idea of just having one to love and cuddle :)

This. :D

Having read Mynyddcymro's posts about her wonderful shetland, which she drives and shows in-hand, it is obvious how rewarding owning a non ridden equine can be. :)

I still deeply miss my old Tb who I never rode - she was a companion for my youngsters.
