An up-date on my mare that went away to be a foster mum last year. She was put in foal by the people that used her. They had her for long that they said they would sort out all of her scans as well for me,as she has a history of twins,so we needed to be ultra careful.
About 2 months ago she threatened to abort, but she stopped. We thought that she had a placentitus,so traeted her with antibiotics.
Yesterday,2 weeks before her due date, she started to foal. She gave up pushing half way through,so i ended up having to deliver the foal, who was very small, and weak.I thought then, its one of a twin, sure enough foal number 2 came out dead.
It turns out that the stud vet had scanned her 4 times, and missed the fact that she was carrying twins.
Im devistaed....i have one dead foal,my mare is improving, and one foal that is alive, and im trying my hardest with,by bottle feeding it every hour, and moving her around. Not sure she make it.
Im absolutly heart broken.

I don't know what to say.

Just (((((hugs))))) how awful for you.

Try and think that at least your mare is improving and foal is trying.

Good luck

Vibes to you the mare and the little one.

Have you popped this in breeding? They may have some useful tips etc.

Oh jings, this is awful I don't know what to say. Ditto above - put in breeding for experts to reply.

Big hugs and sending you lots of good luck thoughts xxx

Really hoping that your mare and surviving foal make it.

Huge (((((hugs))))) and <<<<<vibes>>>>>

Thanks to all the replies,i appreciate it.
As for taking advice from the "experts",i did last time and look where it got me....not again!
My mare will be staying with me,and not being going off as a foster mare again(i suspect i will loose the alive foal)
I cant believe that vets have missed this on 4 scans

So sorry to read this

I do hope your mare recovers well and will accept her foal before its too late but please, please don't let one horrid experience put you off seeking help from the experts...it may be the difference between life or death for your foal!

(((((((((((Huge vibes))))))))))))) from me that your mare and foal recover quickly.

oh how awful, i remember your initial post when you thought she was loosing foal. Massive vibes for little foalie and mare to keep getting stronger and huge hugs to you hunny.

Hugs and vibes to you, your mare and little foal.

Sorry to hear about your mare and her twins. We had a brood mare that we sold who had been scanned showing a single foal. She went on to have a horrendous foaling losing twin foals. She did go on to have a live foal the following year.
(((vibes))) for your foal.

so so sorry to hear this, really hope the little one will make it, some vets are brilliant with them and can do "intensive care" for foals, will pray foalie makes it.

fwiw i've had the same thing happen, one embryo can be in front of the other. i agree that the chances of that happening 4 times...!

I am so sorry I am really hoping that your mare keeps improving and that your foal makes it.
((((((((((((massive vibes for all of you)))))))))))))))

Poor you, it must be devastating. Post this in breeding there may be others in there who will be able to give you advice. Good luck.
