So today I was helping at an endurance ride vet writing.

And I have to say....I'm hooked!

Honestly it just seems amazing, and everyone is so lovely!

It's safe to say, as soon as I have a horse of my own (hopefully in the nearish future when I have money), I'll be right in there :3.

Thought I would just share this for the banter, and because I really really really loved helping out today :P, and I keep gushing about it to anyone who will listen.

And if you read this far, I commend you :D

A lot of people up my yard are members of Chiltern Distance Riders and before moving there I never even gave it a though but it is So much fun, and you learn a lot about how to get and keep your horses fit.

It does seem fantastic! I saw pictures of my friend doing it, and it looked so good, and then I helped today :3. I definitely want to do it at some point :P. Preferably as soon as I can ;). I think that may be a while away though, I can always help out till then :D.

Welcome to the dark side...... ;) Crewing for people and helping at rides is an excellent way to learn, too. When you get your own horse out there you'll be able to hit the ground running.

I think you are right. Endurance people are the friendliest I have come across and so helpful. I think it helps that on the whole you are essentially competing against yourself, to achieve what you want. I am hoping to get out to some endurance rides next year with my youngster that we are just backing.

The dark side indeed ;). Well I already learned so much from just helping on Sunday :), and I'm definitely up for helping more, so I'll be getting to volunteer (which I love) with horses, in a lovely environment and I'll learn a bunch of stuff, plus it will help me to get experience for the future if I decide to do it. Definitely, I'll be out of there like a shot!

Yes I think it definitely helps! The emphasis is on what you and your horse can achieve together as a team, and you are only really competing against yourself. Whereas in other disciplines such as Show Jumping people are like "I'm better than you, and I'm going to kick your ass with my amazing Dutch Warmblood, especially considering you own that horrible little mongrel horse."

Oooo that will be exciting :3. Well enjoy it if you do!
