The nightmare of livery!
I like doing my own horses and don't think I expect too much, stable, turnout, no barber wire, and a arena with lights. Everything round here with this spec is full livery. So I thought fine, will do full. Only to be told the yard closes at 7.30!!!!!!!! I needs to work to pay the livery bill.
Oh and hay that isn't full of mould if it's yard policy that I buy their hay.

It there a mythical horse land that has good livery :)

it does exist! you have to hunt high and low for it and possibly compromise on some things but it is there! i currenly keep mine at a friends property there are 5 horses, her three and two of mine, we all help each other out, she feeds mine in the morning and i'll feed hers in the evening, i have year round turn out although is limited to daytime only for the winter months, i have a nice dry modern stable and a beautiful school with floodlights, amazing hacking and no bitchy liveries - my compromise? - its 17miles from home :( it can take anywhere from 20mins to 45/1hour depending on traffic but my horse is happy and thats all i could ask for, i will be sad to leave when i move to dorset in three weeks :(

I keep mine alone and I sometimes wish I had someone decent to share & trust if I need to go on holiday or day off.BUT I couldnt stand the problems. I had someone before and poo picking ended up my duty! I spent more time doing that whereas they preferred to pay someone £100+ to come in and do it.

Drove me nuts. So we remain alone and if I go on holiday just get friends to check on them. I cant even find a youngster to help they dont seem to want to do it these days?

Saying that I love doing mine and dont think anyone else does it as well and I owe it to them.

I feel your pain! I used to be on full livery and you had to be off the yard by 6.30!!!? I used to managed to get there for about 6.15 at the earliest - our schooling was never the most productive :) by the time i had the saddle on people would be standing around looking at their watches!! The YO even used to come up and complain if the lights were on after 6.30!

Mercifully have found a place that does part livery which basically equates to full but no riding so have the benefit of knowing i don't have to be there everyday and she will be ok but we can ride WHENEVER we want (one girl at our yard often rides at 4am before her commute to london!!)

Don't want to sound like I am gloating but apart from no indoor school (we have 2 x o/door schools) I am in horse heaven :) Without the time constraints!!

I agree! It has taken me the 4 years I have had my current horse to find somewhere which does DIY with a decent school and with nice people. If you add all the other years I have had horses though then it has really taken me a lifetime! Livery yard shopping is definately not fun :(
